KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – The Ukrainian military said Monday that it recaptured strategic gas and oil drilling platforms from Russia in the Black Sea and claimed gains in occupied areas near Bakhmut, a city in eastern Ukraine left in ruins after the war’s longest and deadliest fighting.
The recapture of the so-called Boyko Towers platforms provides an energy source and takes back an asset that Russia seized in 2015 and used to launch helicopters, Ukraine´s Ministry of Defense said.
“Russia has been deprived of the ability to fully control the waters of the Black Sea, and this makes Ukraine many steps closer to regaining Crimea,” the Main Intelligence Directorate said.

The platforms were operated by a Crimean gas company until June last year when Ukraine fired on them killing a dozen of drillers. They are evacuated and derelict since then.

Zelensky is in the US this month and Congress votes on additional aid to Ukraine this month. We are being treated to war propaganda that trumpets Ukrainian victories and successes. Significant?

I want to thank you for providing comic relief this morning. But it doesn’t change the fact that this is a horrible tragedy which your cheerleading does not address. A massive number or hapless Ukrainians and Russians have been killed and mutilated in this US and NATO orchestrated idiocy. And this is not to mention the millions more who have been forced to relocate to Russia and Eastern Europe leaving basically everything behind.
My wife and I live near a large concentration of Ukrainian and Russian expats. Recently we met a group of boys 15 to 17 from Ukraine whose families sent them abroad to avoid being kidnapped from school and off the streets and being forced to be cannon fodder with little to no training or even preparation. None of them knew if they would ever see their families again. They are being hidden in this country by Ukrainian churches. If they are caught by the authorities unlike the 25 to 35 million illegals that are being allowed to stay... they will be sent back to almost certain death.
