Some $35 million in counterfeit designer goods – including mounds of knockoff Louis Vuitton and Gucci bags – were seized in a police raid, as cops busted 18 people for allegedly selling the fakes in plain sight on busy Lower Manhattan sidewalks.

Video posted by NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell on social media shows dozens of handbags lined up on top of subway grates, and some assorted wallets, sunglasses and caps on display on tables at the corner of Canal Street and Broadway Wednesday evening as officers worked to dismantle the illicit set-up.

“We received a tremendous amount of complaints about counterfeit goods from the community and from the business owners,” NYPD Inspector William Glynn said in the video. “So as you can see, there is a tremendous amount…and we’re here seizing that, and taking it off the streets.

Why don't “they” go after counterfeit voters that hard?

Canal St. and Broadway is practically Chinatown.

If Amish gangs want LV bags to sell on a street corner, they steal them. If Asian gangs want LV gags to sell, they have them made in Vietnam.

This is probably more to protect the fancy brands rather than the consumer - as they should. I doubt anybody that buys a Gucci or a Rolex off the streets in NYC feels like they got ripped off.

Well, perhaps some. But then they deserve it.

My BIL bought a “Rolex” off the street on a rare visit to NYC. He made a big deal out of the deal that he got and played it up as a real Rolex. I was thinking in my head if I should break it to him that it was a fake.

“Yeah - I love this watch. For $20 it keeps time as good as anything else I have, and I can string folks along with a good story!”

If Louis Vuitton and Gucci want the stuff confiscated for good they can bid on it at a public auction.

To cover the enforcement cost.

When growing up in NY, Rolex watch knockoffs could be had for under $10. Of course the crystal was usually made out of plastic.

Except the ones with the diamonds around the dial were more expensive, I think $15.

It’s been many years since I went to NY City. Back then, they used to set up shop right on the street...lay out a blanket or sheet, put the fake handbags out for display on it, and hawk them as you walked by. If they saw the cops coming, they’d fold everything up in the blanket, and stash it away until the coast was clear again.

Last time I was on Canal...they wanted $80 for an LV and wouldn’t haggle. I laughed in the guy’s face.

Of course they always make these number for the list price of what the things are knocking off. Not the price the knock offs are being sold for. It’s probably less than a million dollars of stuff, it was just “pretending” to be 35 million dollars of merch.

They can not. When the outer envelope is separated from the paper ballot inside, there is no way to know if the ballot is legit. At least that was the case during my 15 year domicile in WA state where it is 100% mail-in voting. My name and signature was only on the outside envelope. Inside paper ballot had no identification of me or any code to connect with the outside envelope.

If an operative dumps stack of ballots into the system, there is no way to know if any are legit.
