Among many reasons for the downfall of Hollywood (and it's real) is one critical one that grows more glaring by the day: writing and direction have declined in quality to the point where the best acting isn't even relevant. Disney's current difficulties with a truly grotesque mutation of Snow White (for the stale excuse of "reimagining it for Today's Audience"), turning classic romance into a grim feminist anthem, is a case in point - they're doing this because they don't have any better material and because management has morphed from entertainment to social engineering, lately due to the demands of the money men but also due to addressing a deterioration of their cultural relevancy by attempting to strong-arm the culture itself. Which is fine, one supposes, if one happens to be an apparatchik in a communist ministry of entertainment but not where people have the choice as to where to spend their hard-earned cash.

Woke has killed Hollywood or at least mortally wounded it, and the people there refuse to admit it with a stubborn arrogance more typical of a Grievance Studies sophomore or a cult member than an honest vendor. They were always liberal, often communist, but generally managed at least to be subtle enough about it to make a buck. No more. We don't watch their stuff anymore, we submit to it. Or not.

That's why I haven't seen The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. I heard that it's bad.

You think it'll be good because they are spending a lot of money on it. But nope. It's crap.

“They were always liberal, often communist, but generally managed at least to be subtle enough about it to make a buck.”

Your comment reminds me of one of my favorite old movies—”Seconds”, an old black and white movie which starred Rock Hudson.

The movie was designed to be Commie propaganda—but it was subtle and clever—even brilliant.

The average viewer would not be see anything political in the movie—it was all done with stunning photography and writing and directing—no preaching at all.

It was a true work of art—preview:

(spoiler alerts)

The Commie propaganda concept was that the “corporate machine” viewed humans as “meat” to be consumed—the film used images of meat trucks and the evil man greedily consuming chicken while recruiting Rock Hudson to deliver the message.
