Trump calls six-week abortion bans ‘terrible’

Former president Donald Trump, the front-runner in the GOP presidential primary, said a state abortion law signed by his top challenger, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), which bans the procedure after six weeks, is “terrible.”

In April, DeSantis signed the controversial law, which will go into effect if the Florida Supreme Court upholds the state’s 15-week ban on abortion that he signed into law last spring. At a hearing this month, the Florida justices appeared open to upholding the limiting ban.

Trump, in an interview that aired Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” criticized DeSantis for being “willing to sign a five-week and six-week ban.”

“I think what he did is a terrible thing and a terrible mistake,” Trump said.

DeSantis’s six-week ban — which includes exceptions for rape, incest, medical emergencies and “fatal fetal abnormalities” — would outlaw the procedure in Florida before many people know they’re pregnant.

The new host of “Meet the Press,” Kristen Welker, asked Trump if he’d sign federal legislation that would ban abortion at 15 weeks, a limit that antiabortion groups and some lawmakers have rallied behind.

Trump said no, and said he’d seek to negotiate with Democrats on the issue.

Trump declined to say what time frame he thinks is appropriate for an abortion ban and instead insisted that he would “sit down with both sides and I’d negotiate something, and we’ll end up with peace on that issue for the first time in 52 years.”

“Both sides are going to like me,” he added. “I’m going to come together with all groups, and we’re going to have something that’s acceptable.” ***

It’s a human life so I imagine God is against it. It’s actually one of the Ten Commandments, which means He has already ruled on it.

>> Did he really say it?

He seems to be going softer on abortion in recent months. I’m wondering if it has to do with Kansas 2022.

All he had to say was that this was a state issue and if Floridians have a problem with it they can elect different state reps.

Instead he said it was “terrible”? Is this true? Man.

I disagree. It’s the Never Trumpers on here who are jokes.

And if the woman discovers she’s pregnant after 6 weeks and still wants an abortion, she can hightail it to a state like NY or CA so she can kill her baby legally. This is a states rights issue.

I don't have a problem with that. But politically, it's a loser. If we leave it up to the voters, 40 states will legalize abortion. Eventually, POTUS Biden and Newsom will legalize abortion on the federal level. That'll happen sometime between 2030-2040.

There has never been any law proposed in any legislature banning emergency surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy.

It is a universally recognized medical emergency requiring surgical intervention. It is one of those canards routinely thrown out there, along with D&C's being prohibited to remove a miscarriage.

“It seems to be the nevertrumper/uniparty supporting/desantis supporters that are pushing Trump for a federal abortion ban...”

Trump voluntarily waded into these waters. He wasn’t pushed by anyone. Your DDS is worse than TDS

You call Trump supporters “cultish,” but he’s the strongest candidate we have to beat Biden. Until you Never Trumpers come up with a viable candidate who is strong enough to stand up to the deep state, then Trump is our only savior if you truly care about the future of America.

He explicitly said he would be fine with it being a federal law.

‘Welker asked whether such an agreement would take place at the federal level.

“It could be state or it could be federal,” Trump said. “I don’t, frankly, care.”’

Warning to the low IQ anti-Trumpers who didn’t know Trump killed Roe v Wade, and don’t understand he’s courting the “squishy middle,” not taking a position on abortion.

It is not a terrible thing to ban abortions after 6 weeks. Not terrible at all.

They’ve already ruled that it’s a states rights issue. That’s called precedence.

You are correct. However, I am looking at the liberal Justices on the SCOTUS Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson. They just need two more.

Do the unborn have a seat at that table?

Do they vote?

Stop asking silly questions.

Heat surgery and cancer care for boomers? Hundreds of billions.

"Hi, Doc Jim. I want to go into pediatrics".

Don't be an idiot. You'll starve.

Trump is okay with murder of viable babies.

Watch what they do, not what they say. Trump has done more for the pro-life movement than any president before him. Of course he’ll get the pro-life vote, silly.

So what could Trump do unequivocally to save all unborn children? If he was able to ban it outright and yet 1 woman was able to abort her child, you’d hold him responsible for it and claim he was “okay with the murder of a viable baby.” You TDS posters are so ridiculously obvious that it makes you look like paid disrupters.
