Some experts believe the deal signifies an easing of tensions between Tehran and Washington.
Five American prisoners held in Iran flew out of Tehran on Monday officials said, as part of a deal that saw nearly $6 billion in Iranian assets unfrozen.
Despite the deal, tensions are almost certain to remain high between the US and Iran, which are locked in various disputes, including over Tehran’s nuclear program. Iran says the program is peaceful, but it now enriches uranium closer than ever to weapons-grade levels.
The planned exchange has unfolded amid a major American military buildup in the Persian Gulf, with the possibility of US troops boarding and guarding commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of all oil shipments pass. Two people, including a senior Biden administration official, said that the prisoners left Tehran on Monday. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the exchange was ongoing.

Americans shouldn’t be going to Iran anyways
Methinks that the prisoner swap was a secondary part of the deal. The main reason for the deal was to get Iran the $6 billion. Somebody had to come up with an excuse to get Iran the money, and so, prisoners were added to the deal.
I don’t think they were natural born Citizen Americans.
Instead of screaming “Death to America” 100 times a day, now they only scream it 10 times. Looks like progress is being made.
In other words, hostage taking is now a proven and prolific industry and a way to increase their revenues which means they will be doing more of it, and not only in Middle Eastern countries. Americans and Euros all over the world now have a target on them, courtesy of our stupid and corrupt “leaders.”
Who got the brokers fee of 10%?
I read elsewhere that all six Americans were dual citizens of Iran. The idea of foreigners becoming American citizens yet choosing to remain immersed in the goings-on of their original homeland, especially a crazy country like Iran, to the extent of physically going there, and then calling upon America to bail them out when they get into trouble there, well it does not sit well with me.
At least now Iran has the money to pay John Kerry for the Nukes he promised to sell them.
Now our enemies know how much each American hostage is worth.
The $5.9 billion in cash released to Iran represents money South Korea owed Iran — but had not yet paid — for oil purchased before the U.S. imposed sanctions on such transactions in 2019.
Sounds like Iran should have gotten their money years ago.
No specific word yet on the estimated number of Americans who will be injured or die as a result of this ridiculous bribe...
Should have told Iran to keep them
Technically, then, it WAS a ransom.
And with this act Americans travelling abroad were placed in greater danger than ever.
Votes have consequences.
Every one of those “Americans” was born in Iran. /spit
inflation gone mad....one billion per person is a rip off
So, what are the names of the Iranian agents Biden traded to them?
