California has launched an offensive against the “brazen” criminals causing chaos in the state’s retail sector — injecting $267,118,293 into local law enforcement agencies to help them crack down on smash-and-grab robberies.
The funding will be split between 55 local law enforcement agencies across the state — with 41 sheriffs’ and police departments, along with one probation department, being awarded up to $23,663,194 each. Thirteen district attorney offices will also each receive up to $2,050,000 to prevent and investigate organized retail crime and arrest and prosecute more suspects.
“Enough with these brazen smash-and-grabs,” California Gov. Gavin Newsom said when announcing the grants. “With an unprecedented $267 million investment, Californians will soon see more takedowns, more police, more arrests and more felony prosecutions.
“When shameless criminals walk out of stores with stolen goods, they’ll walk straight into jail cells.”
Retailers have had enough Retailers in California have been struggling to cope with the recent surge in criminal activity — which is seriously stinging their bottom lines.
As a result, some stores have resorted to securing certain items with padlocks and chains, or they’re locking up high-theft items behind plastic casings, while others are upping their security, resulting in a major inconvenience to honest shoppers and workers alike.
But for many retail giants, enough is enough. In recent months, there’s been a huge uptick in retailers shutting up shop and leaving theft-prone cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles for good — landing significant blows to the state’s economy.

Wow, Gavin’s talking tough against crime. I’m totally buying this election year baloney.
A person can steal $949 of merchandise from a store in California and then just go next door and steal another $949. And so forth. The entire shopping mall or commercial district— Until he’s got a full warehouse of goodies all for free.
Truly, it’s the Golden State
after the horses have bolted? is there ANY intelligent life in California? the art of simple extrapolation seems to be totally lost on the left side.
what you need is more Texas illegal invaders, load up the busses.
Racists!
Navin Grusome is gonna get tough on crime just in time to fool the uninformed voters he needs to elect him Prez.
He creates a problem and then tries solving it during election season
And, immediately back out again due to pro criminal, Democratic DA’s.
Everything in Walmart is behind glass now. If you need new underwear, you have to ask for it.
Gov Dipstick is hittin the pipe again hard if he believes any of the dribble that came out of his mouth. No such thing will happen to these protected classes of minority yutes. They will be back on the job within 4 hours of their ticket
That clandestine Chinese germ lab east of Fresno sure went down the memory hole fast.
Courage from a Dem? Not buying it.
In my city I could tell in advance that when a small lunch place added outdoor seating the owner would find that derelicts would use the seating to sit all day and give catcalls to passing women (as they did in the small park that should be for people in dress clothes eating lunch from the nearby offices but was now for pot smokers and derelicts) or the owner would have to risk woke protests for getting the cops to evict them for customers with a fistfight or two as a result.
In this one, the owner chickened out. Cowardice is a big trait of woke people-—they have low integrity and character.
But in some places it’s still okay for looters to slow-walk the theft of goods valued at $950 or less each trip to a store.
The thieves will not be prosecuted because of “equity.”
With Soros DAs this is just flushing money down the toilet.
Catch and release.
Under what new laws since the current laws forbit arresting these savages?
What the doctor ordered.
Smart stores will figure this out and pack up and leave for red states.
