Looking at the pay scale for federal workers, they are overpaid with more holidays than ordinary Americans. Government shutdowns save tax payers money. Restore certain essential services, i.e., pay Social Security and shut down everything else. Restrict funds for the US Postal Service until absentee ballot laws are changed. That must be a priority, but the GOP likes to be losers, otherwise they would use the power of the purse to end the mail in voter fraud. Republicans who cave in need to be primaried.
Doc, you are too kind. They are government employees, not workers. They don’t build a damn thing. They only make it more difficult for real American workers to prosper. But your points are correct.
EVERY SINGLE FEDERAL WORKER WILL STAY HOME & GET ALL THE BACK PAY WHEN THE SHUTDOWN IS OVER-—
HAS HAPPENED EVERY SINGLE TIME PRIOR.
It’s funny you mention the postal service. If they defunded the postal service it would impact the government employees retirement plan. In short, because of the way they force the post office to account for their pensions it keeps the rest of the system funded. You cut postal costs, you reduce contributions to the Postal Pensions. You cut their pension contributions, the entire pension structure for all non military retirees goes bust real fast.
The entire federal budget is a mess and it is so Byzantine that a cut here or there would start a cascade over on the other side.
And it only gets worse as the boomers retire.
