For months, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has said he plans to continue his long-shot challenge against President Biden in the Democratic primary rather than dropping out to launch a third-party bid.
But lately Mr. Kennedy’s message has seemed to shift, including publicly telling a voter who asked about his plans that he was keeping his “options open.”
If Mr. Kennedy does decide to leave the party of his famous father and uncles to run in the general election, one potential landing spot may be the Libertarian Party, which at the moment lacks a widely known candidate but has excelled at securing ballot access.
In July, Mr. Kennedy met privately with Angela McArdle, the chair of the Libertarian Party, at a conference they were both attending in Memphis — a meeting that has not previously been reported.
“He emphasized that he was committed to running as a Democrat but said that he considered himself very libertarian,” Ms. McArdle said in an interview, adding that they agreed on several positions, including the threat of the “deep state” and the need for populist messaging. “We’re aligned on a lot of issues.”
“My perspective is that we are going to stay in touch in case he does decide to run,” Ms. McArdle said. “And he can contact me at any time if that’s the case.”

Interesting....
Go for it! Ralph Nader his senile, corrupt a@@.
The problem is: RFK is hardly a libertarian.
Gavin Newsom vetoed the California legislation about child custody and parents having to affirm a child’s gender identity.
Maybe Newsom is running for POTUS.

True but there are some things they overlap on. Vaccine damage would be a big one. He would do well to keep talking about it.
RFK has no chance. The Dems have treated him like crap. He needs to siphon votes from Biden by running 3rd party. Just desserts.
I saw this and raised an eyebrow. Did he make a statement?
Aha. I see the statement in the link. Thanks.
He is mostly very far from a Libertarian.
Unfortunately, Libertarian candidates have had a singular knack for taking just the right number of votes to deny a GOP victory in many races and giving the Demonrats a plurality.
He can triangulate and shift positions.
So what
That’s what politicians do!
The LP seem open to it, anyway.
This would be a new one then as RFK will come at Biden
He needs to do something. He went from regularly in the news to near blackout.
Are Libertarians against the vaccine? I don’t particularly remember that. I don’t even remember them being fiercely against the mandates.
I've seen this kind of party hijacking before. People who know nothing about the party or don't care because they want their name on the ballot. In the example I'm thinking of the fake candidate was sent a letter about the Green Party which was much more to his liking.
Yes, but the problem is that this divides the anti-Demonrat vote. Trump needs every anti-Demonrat vote, not having the field split. I can’t recall any instance where a Libertarian has ever helped a Republican nominee win.
In a true 3-party race, with the 3rd party in the middle between the Democrats and Republicans, the party whose candidate more strongly holds their base wins.
In other words, if 3-party and Trump running, Trump wins. Any other Republican and you get a repeat of 1992.
I agree.
It would be different than what you’re used to.
Kennedy would siphon off lefty votes.
His messaging is anti Swamp. That costs Trump votes, because it is the only issue of consequence.
In contrast, he is pro Choice. Those votes certainly don’t come from Trump.
Trumps messaging in 2016 was build the wall and drain the Swamp. That remains the path to victory. Vax issues are of interest to very small numbers of people who are Drain the Swamp focused and were Trump votes anyway.
Bottom line, Drain the Swamp is the populist message that wins, and it is very dangerous to have RFK jr out there mining those votes.
I would have thought Green Party.
Are they still a thing anymore?
