One day of voting is rather restrictive. I’d say better for two, three, or four days, some group of Thurs-Sun. That gives everyone a weekday, weekend, and day or night to vote. No excuses. Let County sheriff run the sites, augmented by National / State Guard. Fills up one drill weekend.Military and law enforcement are much more likely trustworthy trustees of ballot security and handling.
Absentee is limited to deployed military. Mayyybe a bit more like the hospital-confined or such, but you’d have to argue that for me to accept it.
And of course purple finger dye, ID, regular clearing of rolls/re-registerinc, and so on.

It's very common in Europe to hold elections on a Sunday, Saturday and Sunday. The longer the voting period, the harder it becomes to secure the ballots and ensure election integrity.
