It’s possible to take a position that we shouldn’t be supporting neo-Nazis OR neo-Soviets. As it stands, we are supporting the neo-Nazis. Because ... reasons.
I thought they might go radio silence on this like they have on Marina Abramović, but no kidding - they’re on here defending that vile travesty that took place in the Canadian Parliament.
Beyond disgusting.
It would be better to just let it all alone. The dude was honored as a liberator, not a Jew murderer.
This is from the Wikipedia article.
SS men were indoctrinated with the belief they were members of a "master race". The ideology of the SS was, even more so than in Nazism in general, built on the belief in a superior "Aryan race". This led to the SS playing the main role in political violence and crimes against humanity, including the Holocaust and "mercy killing" of those with congenital illnesses. After the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, the SS and Nazi Party were found to be criminal organizations at the Nuremberg Trials. The Waffen-SS went far beyond liberators they were sworn in secret rituals to reject Christianity and embrace pagan Satanism. The Waffen SS death head skull was on their Service Caps.To this end, the SS served as the central institution for the broader extension of Nazi ideology and its realisation.[6] Representing the ideological opponents of the regime in one form or fashion, historian George C. Browder identified the Nazi state's list of enemies as follows: enemy states, miscegenation, the Jews, Catholicism, freemasonry, Communism, the Republic (hostility directed at the liberal republican constitution and form of government), homosexuality,[a][b] moral decay, capitalists, and the "Old Guard" (hate and fear of traditionally powerful influences and institutions of the old society as unjust, retarding influences in German society).[9] These groups became the focus of the SS—the predominant instrument of power for the Nazi totalitarian state—as they sought to direct and influence ideology and ethics within the Reich.[10]
Go ahead and claim they were liberators while we all know they murdered anyone that was not of their Volk.
Just because that might be understandable doesn't justify embracing neo-Nazism in 2023 or maintaining a hatred for Russians simply based on their ethnicity.
Modern-day Russia is not the Soviet Union. Most Russians are not communist. Stalin and his gulags are condemned within Russia>
Russians have even more of a right to hate Nazis and neo-Nazism given than the Nazis killed 27 million Russians in WWII.
And, yes, we sided the Soviets because the Nazis were the greater evil.

Same 'ol same 'ol. (and well put, both!)
(I think you're in agreement, n'est-ce paz?)
Putin is one of the best leaders in the world. Russia has a 15% flat tax rate, the Russian government protects Judeo-Christian morality from the LGBT agenda and has spent billions constructing churches.
What is more important? The fact that a 98 year old guy was a member of an army during the second world war or that right now Russians are killing Ukrainians?
What is more important to you? What unit some guy belonged to in 1943 where he may have just been a cook, or how to stop Russian soldiers from kidnapping, murdering, and raping children in Ukraine now.
If the story from 1943 is more important that says a lot about your character.
But all of that is negated by his invasion of Ukraine, and his military's targeting of civilians and abuse of civilians.
Kind of like how even though Hitler brought the world some interesting technology, and built a lot of buildings, his evil tyranny totally erased whatever minor good thing he might have done.
Is that why both Eisenhower and Kennedy were photographed with another German SS veteran, Werner Von Braun?
Thanks for your red herring
Let’s see...If Russia or China fomented an illegal coup in Mexico, installed a puppet government, trained and funded soldiers there, armed Mexico with lethal weapons and were running biolabs with deadly pathogens in them, what would we do?
But careful examination of the actual historical records which was done when Hunka and others were admitted to Western countries showed that Hunka and others did not commit any war crimes. You forgot to mention that part.
The very unit Hunka was supposedly a part of took a special oath that differed from other German units because they were joining just to fight against Russians.
And fighting against Russians is something Ukrainians have been forced to do many times.
While all the pro Russian club members are trying to focus everyone's attention on one 18 year old kid who joined an effort to fight Russians 80 years ago, Russians are once again invading Ukraine and destroying Ukrainian cities, abducting Ukrainian children, raping Ukrainian women and girls, and killing Ukrainians.
Why is what one guy did in 1943 more important than what tens of thousands of Russians are doing today?
Some of those victims have claimed that he oversaw the torture of slave laborers who did not live up this expectations.
But instead of worrying about what some guy did 80 years ago in an effort to get rid of invading Russians, why not spend time trying to identify the Russians who are killing and torturing civilians in Ukraine now?
Trudeau was heard whispering to Zelensky “that guy may be a Nazi, but at least he’s not Trump!” /S
While he was still in Ukraine, his unit changed it’s name from the Waffen-SS “Galicia” Division or the SS 14th Waffen Division to the First Ukrainian Division, obviously making it much more acceptable to the Allies which made it easier for them to immigrate to the Canada and other Western Countries.
After 9/11 you could make a valid argument the USA had every right to invade Afghanistan because that’s where the terrorist act started.
What possible valid argument existed to justify the USA for invading Iraq ?? What we were told back then turned out to be lies.
I’m not justifying what Russia is doing in Ukraine, but what we did in Iraq can’t be justified either.
If someone ever invaded the USA and killed 50 million Americans, we would be very sensitive if someone was allowed to flourish in a country and be held up as a hero by a country that is supplying the enemy.
The Russians are seeing German Tanks running around Ukraine, a recent report says German Soldiers were recently killed in one of those German Tanks, now the Russians are seeing someone who helped kill 50 million Russians now being held up as a hero in a country that is arming our enemy.
Replace Russian with American, how would we feel, very uneasy would be my guess.
I know a lot about Werner Von Braun and Operation Paper Clip, I’m not totally okay with that either.
50 million Americans weren’t killed by German SS Units, which makes it much easier for us to accept taking potential Nazi War Criminals.
I suspect if we lost 50 million Americans in WW II, I doubt we would be so welcoming of Nazis into America.
Ukraine is what resembles the old Soviet Union.
Now, he and Russia have overcome a sanction war that was meant to cripple Russia and free of being bullied by us and the West.
You're comments are rooted irrational hatred and jealousy.
