In his tenure in office, Patton has been seen as a moderating force among Kansas Republicans Party, even if the public hasn't seen the rest of the party that way. He has served as the chairman of the House K-12 Budget Committee and will step down next month as chair of the chamber's Judiciary Committee.
He said that in his experience, the Statehouse has been mostly the same over the past eight years, and that the Legislature is not as divided as is often claimed.
"I certainly think there are fewer moderates in the Legislature than when I got there, but it really depends on how you define them. I mean, look at me. I wouldn't define myself on any one issue."
"I do truly see both sides," he continued. "Whether it's reaching across the aisle to work with a Democrat on an issue, or whether it's reaching further to the right to work with someone who might be a little more conservative than me, that's how that's how we're going to accomplish change."

We all truly see both sides.
We just choose the right side.
When I see the term “Moderate” I am filled with contempt for the person it is describing, especially when it is the MSM doing the describing.
There are no “moderate” Democrats.
And there are no “moderate” Republicans. Only Assistant Democrats.
How many times have left-wing politicans reached across the aisle to work with us on cutting government spending, eliminating duplicate government programs etc?
Wow. He is proud of being a RINO.
Yes, he she is now "transitioning". Henceforth "she" will be known as Freida Patton. I've got to admit that with the hormone therapy, "her" chest is filling out nicely. Well done, Freida!
Kansas is a curiosity. It actually has at least one functioning Communist (Fred Doll) serving in the legislative GOP. He had an 87% leftist rating from the ACU at one point. He left the GOP, but returned to the party and they still renominated and reelected him ! He makes Fred Patton (ACU 72% Conservative lifetime) look like Gen. Patton.
A ‘moderate’ Republican means “He gives democrats whatever they want”
The last thing we need are moderate pubbies; they are nothing more than butt boys for the RATS.
One can take a rightful stronger view these days, there is no acceptable reasoning “to reach across the aisle” when in fact the politician is voting for something that promotes communism. That goes for the GOPe/uniparty in general.
“reaching across the aisle”
“Moderate”
I know nothing about this guy, but all I see is “squish” who cannot see the communist revolution occurring right beneath his nose for what it is
Brownback was a true conservative and a failure. Had the wind at his back.
Where did he fail?
You nailed it with that response.
As a former Democrat I totally agree. I was a dumb liberal in my twenties, but from my mid-thirties to now in my mid-fifties I’ve become more conservative over time. We don’t hear too many accounts of people becoming more liberal as they age. As one assumes more responsibilities with age the more it becomes apparent the liberal philosophy is total garbage with no applicable benefits for the American people. Liberalism and the failure to stop has given us negatives such as a $33 trillion dollar national debt and tranny men playing in women’s sports!
When the leftist media describes someone as a “moderate”, they mean someone who is not quite a committed communist.
“Moderate” is just another way of saying, RINO KY Cowboy.
