In an easily missed moment during Wednesday night’s chaotic GOP presidential primary debate, Gov. Ron DeSantis said he would sign a federal 15-week abortion ban.
Throughout his campaign, DeSantis, who has signed both a 15-week and six-week abortion ban in Florida, has walked a very fine line on abortion access, saying that he would be a “pro-life” president and support “pro-life legislation,” but has stopped short of saying he would support any national abortion ba
This is a complete flip from the last debate in August, where the governor indicated that he would prefer states to make their own abortion laws.

desantis signed a 15 week, then recently, a 6 week abortion ban, and has been touting that in his campaign.
So, after having said abortion should be a state right, desantis is now
advocating a national, federal 15 week abortion ban,
and weakening his own 6 week ban.
What changed? Did the wind change to blowing from a different direction?
And abortion is not in the constitution, and should be a state issue.
DeSantis appears DeSperate. Abortion should remain a state issue.
What to call the new combined philosophy? Uniparty? Deep State?
At least Ron is getting his views out in the open now, instead of waiting for 2028. Now he will be a repeat candidate in 2028.
You beat me to it. You are spot on in your analysis.
It took the pro-life lobby nearly 50 years to get the supreme court to put the abortion issue where it belongs-up to the govt of each state-now stop playing it for political points and leave it alone, damnit!!
A national abortion ban has 0 chance of passing either house. Pushing it will only mobilize the selfish single issue women vote. This is like Graham floating it 2 months before the mid terms.
The feds need to set some standards af federal level for DoD, etc. this might be reasonable because something is needed, else, like Biden now, they support it, require it in insurance, etc.
What grants a 105 day old baby with the Right to Life while making a 104 day old baby disposable?
How about a zero week ban? So crazy...it is almost like calling any abortion murder.
I personally think it should be left to the states, but DeSantis position, if it is indeed new, is still astronomically further to the right than Trump.
Trump called the current Florida law, of only 6 weeks that effectively ends all abortions, that DeSantis signed, quote "terrible" and a "terrible mistake."
Trump has also refused to present his own position on a number of acceptable weeks. Therefore, in Trump tradition, we should assume the worst.
Trump therefore appears to support abortions up to (9 months times 4 weeks per month =) 36 weeks after conception. That is the only safe assumption, at this point.
Politicians within the culture of death
*What grants a 105 day old baby with the Right to Life while making a 104 day old baby disposable?*
-Very good.
*A national abortion ban has 0 chance of passing either house. Pushing it will only mobilize the selfish single issue women vote.*
-That’s our problem. Women enjoy being used and lied to.
“And she never gives out and she never gives in. She just changes her mind”.-Billy Joel
And what about the current federal involvement? Ignore it or try to set a minimum national standard for federal agencies?
These women are murderers and they use their collective votes to make them not murderers by law.
Repeal the 19th.
I think more abortions would be prevented if this was a state issue. In any case, there will not be a 15 week fed ban. It’s just cheap talk. It’s more likely to make the conversation federal which will end up with Row v Wade enshrined into law and another 30 year battle to remove it. When Rats get power they use it.
In the Dobbs case the Supreme Court said the laws regarding abortion should be handled by the States.
It makes no sense for the Presidential candidates to be flip-flopping on the issue.
A President cannot sign a Federal Abortion Law after the Dobbs decision.
And it wasn't long ago that we were told that Roe v. Wade was "settled law" after 50 years and had "0 chance of being overturned by SCOTUS".
You'll never know if you don't try.
hypocrit....
attacks Trump, instead of trying to defend desanctimonious not standing up and advocating a 6 week national abortion ban, when desantis signed that for Florida....
And weakens his stance and possibly causing abortion to become the major issue for the left again, by advocating a federal ban, after previously saying JUST WEEKS AGO he was for states deciding on abortion.
If you are truly pro-life, then DeSantis is your guy - not Trump.
