The Issue (the economy) That’s a Bigger Problem for Biden Than His Age
MSN ^ | September 25, 2023 | Ed Kilgore

Posted on 09/29/2023 6:52:54 PM PDT by DoodleBob

…Forty-four percent of Americans in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll say they’ve gotten worse off financially under Biden’s presidency, the most for any president in ABC/Post polls since 1986. Just 37% approve of his job performance, while 56% disapprove. Still fewer approve of Biden’s performance on the economy, 30%.

It seems that a significant share of voters are buying Trump’s argument that he built a sensational economy before COVID, and then the 2020 election, interrupted his fine work. The Trump “boom,” of course, was arguably just a situation he inherited from Barack Obama. But to Americans who have been disgruntled with the economy since the pandemic unhinged it, the early Trump years look good in retrospect (indeed, even the early COVID years under Trump left many voters flush with stimulus checks). This way of viewing the economy also robs Biden of credit for incremental improvements in economic conditions during his presidency. If voters mainly want to know if they are better off now than in 2020 rather than in 2022, the answer can change from positive to negative quite decisively.

Yes, it’s entirely possible there is simply a lag in public perceptions of the economy, which will become brighter at precisely the right moment for Biden if runaway inflation doesn’t return and the economy avoids a recession. But on the other hand, as New York’s Eric Levitz recently noted, there are potential economic storms on the horizon that could harden or even intensify unhappy voter perceptions. The odds of even higher energy costs (including gasoline pump prices) largely beyond the administration’s control is just one vote-killing peril to keep in mind.

Economic jitters don’t, moreover, displace concerns about Biden’s age, which remain very real…Negative attitudes towards Biden’s job performance in other areas, notably immigration, are also problematic.

Real US median household income shows the lie that Obama had any sort of “boom” economy. And once his puppet Biden was elected it started going backwards.

Here the other big lie the Alt Left are telling themselves “inflation is going down”. No it just not growing as fast. Why because the US working class have exhausted their saving and their credit trying to keep up. They are now just struggling to survive,

The “Trump ‘boom,’ of course, was arguably just a situation he inherited from Barack Obama.”

Oh, brother. Obama was a virulent racist, anti-business, pro-commie (raised and trained by commies), America-hating rabble-rousing community organizer through and through. He did everything in his power to stunt the economy and transfer wealth to the underclass.

Now we are in Obama III and he is directing Biden with the finer points of his Project Destroy America.

Trump unleashed an economic boom with myriad positive, growth-centric policies. Biden undid all of them on his Day One.

John Kennedy had a good speech on the Senate floor this week

While the inflation rate is going d I will a bit, even if it went to zero, prices aren’t going to go down

The electric companies sure aren’t going to lower their rates

We’re screwed, thanks to Joe

It is harder to grow an economy after X yrs of growth.

As X gets higher it becomes more difficult.

Nobel economists fail to grasp this indisputable fact-

regardless of Obama’s worst ever recovery despite a coincidental oil/gas boom-the only good jobs created that they of course despised.

Debt Clock

When contemplating the "clock" consider that the national debt in circa 2000 was about $5 trillion. 23 years later....

Gasoline prices seem flat this week, but, many items at the grocery are up, even eggs. Milk up 20 cents / gal. this week. The only thing actually lower without being on sale was baby carrots...

The successor to Biden will have to explain the sinking economy. Or will simply say “I look new horizons and the future, not the past.”

Biden need not worry about the economy. He will be away shortly. Too many leftist media stories about his failings mean the handlers are saying he outlived his usefulness.

People will put up with a LOT of bad behavior in their politicians. It doesn’t impact them. Plus there is a strong psychological attachment to consistency-changing a vote suggests that the voter made an error. That’s a tough thing for many folks to admit to themselves.

But if you can’t make ends meet, or if you’re losing your job, etc., THEN people will feel good changing a vote.

These are the same kind of folks who think Republicans are inflicting spending cuts if government spending on anything isn’t going up as high as it used to. If only it was true! Calvin Coolidge was the last president who actually reduced the size of the federal government by cutting spending. Even Ronald Reagan couldn’t do that much, despite the other good things he accomplished.
