Russia's Gas Production Collapses to Late-Stage USSR Levels
Newsweek ^ | Sept. 30, 2023 | Brendan Cole

Posted on 09/30/2023 8:26:44 PM PDT by canuck_conservative

The country's state energy giant Gazprom said in its latest report that gas production in the first half of 2023 was 179.45 billion cubic meters (bcm). Gazprom added that this represents a year-on-year decrease of nearly a quarter (24.7 percent), and a 26.5 percent drop in gas supplies to the domestic and foreign markets...

The invasion also pushed Europe to cut purchases of Russian oil and gas drastically. The continent overcame an energy crunch last winter, in part by reducing energy consumption and finding other suppliers, such as sellers of seaborne liquefied natural gas (LNG)...

Independent Russian-language news outlet Agentstvo reported that Gazprom "has never had such a low production rate in its entire history" and that "the last time there was similar figure was in the Soviet Union in 1978," a year when 372.1 bcm were produced...

O'Donnell said that the increase in supplies of US LNG helped by Norway and Qatar meant that "the EU didn't have to cave in when Putin cut the gas flows."

"So, that business is now lost to Putin," O'Donnell said, although the EU will face higher prices of new global LNG coming online.

"For Moscow, without new, hugely expensive pipelines all the way to China, this huge Russian gas resource will remain a stranded asset," added O'Donnell, a global fellow with the Wilson Center think tank...

Meanwhile, Gazprom's report reinforces predictions by Russian state bank VEB, reported by Reuters in September, that Russia's pipeline natural gas exports to the European Union may fall to 21 bcm, almost two-thirds lower than last year and a six-fold drop from 2021.

VEB said that Russian gas exports to Europe are expected to fall to 15 bcm in 2026...

This is good news.
It's clear that Russia is losing and on its last legs.
All we have to do now is stop purchasing fertilizer from them and they'll be defeated.

Propaganda. Let's revisit this in January, when Europe is in the middle of winter and they already shut their energy sources down to go green for the WEF. They're going to need that gas in the winter, trust me.

I guess if we BLOW UP pipelines going to GERMANY, we can displace some of Russia’s gas output. Considering that Russia was selling that gas to Germany for NEXT TO NOTHING, the loss in revenue is in the noise. Would have made more sense for the Neocons to blow up Russian LNG ports, but I guess Germany was a softer target.

And, of course, the doubling of the price of oil during this time, thanks to the Neocons emptying our Strategic Reserve, EASILY made up from the lost gas revenue and much more for the Russians, so they’re sitting happy with their budgets.

When you use the word “we” I am not sure to whom you refer?

Winters are getting milder in Europe so they'll need to use less Russian oil.

Don’t play dumb. You know damn well the U.S. or its proxy actors blew up the Nordstream Pipeline.

Until they're aren't.

I had my water lines freeze twice within the last ten years in an area where the water lines are heavily protected against freezing.

What do you mean "milder?" It's in the 20s-40s throughout the winter in Europe. Try being in your house in that temperature range without heat.

Plus they use the gas for cooking and fertilizer.

It’s not a secret.

All I said is that winters are getting milder in Europe. I didn't say the same about other places in the world.

A one-off is NOT "winters are getting milder in Europe".

I could say the same about where I live - but then the Frost Giant comes roaring back.

Absent something extraordinary happens this will be over soon.

The Ruble has gotten crushed in the last six months after soaring with oil/gas prices the first 18 months of invasion.

Oil/gas higher lately, Ruble getting destroyed=very bad for Vlad.

search ruble usd chart-it is the only objective scoreboard and everyone see it themselves.

barring a sub Arctic Euro winter-he is toast.
