Matt Gaetz burns down the Republican House

If you’re kicking yourself for missing the historic moment of a House speaker’s ouster Tuesday because you had to work or get your kids from school, relax: We watched, and all it boiled down to was hot air — sound and fury, signifying nothing except cynical nihilism and likely weeks of chaotic paralysis.

Oh, Rep. Matt Gaetz and his fellow rebels talked plenty about high principle and the crisis of the Republic, but all they were really doing was burning down the House, or at least the House Republican majority.

Professed conservative hardliner Gaetz got the chaos he wanted, ironically thanks to the unanimous support of House Democrats, who joined the tiny GOP Suicide Squad...

Dems, of course, are reveling in the dysfunctional circus — and will presumably try to spin it out for as long as possible...

No one knows what comes next: The rebels have no candidate for speaker, let alone a plan for keeping the party’s most moderate members from turning to the Democrats in desperation for a return to regular order.

Gaetz and his allies didn’t take a bold stand for anything but self-indulgent nihilism — they were mad at how things have been going, so they blew everything up.

The reality remains that the Dems control the White House and the Senate, so the Republicans in Congress are unable to get much done, let alone realize the demands knocking about in Gaetz’s wildest dreams.

This arson no doubt feels good, like you’ve at last done something — just like punching a wall.

Then your hand starts to hurt and you realize that that’s all you’ve achieved...

Also up in the air: What Republican would even want the speaker’s job, so long as it means being held hostage by Gaetz and his crew?

Why is it Chaos? The Speaker of the House has changed many times, and while traditionally this is done when one party regains control of the house, but it is still a change.

And as for paralyzing the legislature, well that is good isn’t it? Hard to write bad laws when things are on hold.

I don’t know enough to know who will become the new speaker, but I suspect whoever it is will always keep in mind that if you stray to far in accommodating the other side, your side may yank you back.

I am reminded of an old Chinese curse, “may you live in interesting times” and indeed, these are the most interesting times.

Reality check. McCarthy proposed a temporary spending bill that would have cut spending and secured the border, but idiots like Gaetz opposed it

It appeared evident even before the vote that the stopgap bill was bound to fail, as several hard-right Republicans had declared that they would not back a temporary spending bill, known as a continuing resolution, under any circumstances. And the measure — which would slash spending and impose severe immigration restrictions — never had a chance of preventing a shutdown, since it was regarded as a nonstarter in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

The size of the group of defectors was striking, reflecting both Mr. McCarthy’s weak hold on his conference and the influence of the far right in the House. The bill failed by a vote of 232-198, with 21 Republicans joining all Democrats to oppose it.

“Every time we vote for a continuing resolution, we make no changes in policy or spending,” said Representative Matt Gaetz, Republican of Florida, who led the charge against Mr. McCarthy’s funding plan. “It’s a vote to continue the status quo.”

What exactly did the GOP controlling the House manage to accomplish? You cant break something that’s already catastrophically broken.

Of course, no one will talk about the invasion on the border or Biden's crimes, the news will be all about Republican chaos

They still do not get it! Conservatism in the US is the rule, not the exception. If you do not support the Constitution of the US, you are the radical.

lol money wont fix the border. Its policy- what has Kevin done as speaker to address the border to change policy? Kevin had his chance but he wants to play both sides against the middle. He lost.

The Murdoch machine is pitching a hissy fit because one of their beloved RINOs was toppled.

They didn’t say anything about the RINOs deliberately sabotaging the Red Wave that was supposed to sweep a bunch of Republicans into office in 2022...because a whole bunch of MAGA candidates had won the Republican primaries and the RINOs decided they would rather lose a whole bunch of seats their party could have won than see a bunch of MAGA Republicans win those seats.

It is precisely that act of treachery on the RINO’s part which made them so dependent on the MAGA Representatives in the House since their majority was so razor thin. Chief RINO McCarthy then made promises to them which he broke. He stalled and refused to impeach Biden, Garland, Mayorkas and co. He released the Jan 6 tapes.....then pulled them back. He stripped Ukraine war funding out of the budget as most Republicans wanted....then cut a side deal with the Democrats to fund it. In short, he broke his word and betrayed what most Republicans want at every turn.

Gaetz made him pay for it. FINALLY, a backstabbing RINO has to actually PAY for his lies, his betrayal and for rolling over for Democrats over and over and over again. Its about damn time. We need a lot more of this sort of thing.

I’m a little torn about this issue with the mccarthy speakership. On one hand he got what he deserved. The first thing he said after being removed from the gavel was that he was counting on nancy pelosi. He was relying on her to save his butt by giving him a few votes in case of a vacate call. In exchange he was allowing her to maintain an office in the building. She was directing democrats from that office to push their agenda. She did what you could count on a democrat to do. She did exactly what’s best for her agenda. He’s caved on every single issue the democrats opposed. Did he get things ‘done’, well yeah he sure did. We got a ‘milk sop’ impeachment inquiry wasting time while joe biden shuffles into AFone with obama in his ear. But he did not make effective use of his slim majority the way the democrats know how to ENFORCE their majority. The J6 prisoners are STILL in the dungeon, yet bowman was allowed to pull a fire alarm and he got a pat on the head over it. The motion to vacate was a bold move. That’s what’s required. If you’re not going to lead then get out the way.

On the other hand we’ve been shot in the foot. Gaetz sent the motion across without a plan. He’s the dog that finally caught the car he was chasing. So Now What. That’s what we’re about to see.

NOW WHAT?
