I personally think he sees that if he doesn’t bring both sides of the Republicans together, Donald Trump will not be re-elected and our country will go communist!
Shutting down the Gov’t, another winning platform in 2024.
Hey, vote for us:
We stopped paychecks to military families.
We stopped healthcare for Vets.
We stopped Social Security Checks and shut off healthcare for Seniors.
Shutting down the government is the correct thing to do. Passing a bill to have govt. employees forfeit pay for not working during a 'shutdown' before the shutdown just makes it more interesting.
Maybe he wasn’t telling the truth about that.
In a week or two, once a new speaker is in place this event will be forgotten.
The easiest way to get around that problem is to pass each of the most “politically sensitive” funding authorizations as its own bill. Let Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell reject them (PREDICTION: they won’t).
It is really disingenuous to claim Gaetz and the others ‘sided with Democrats’.
Or BYRON DONALDS!
BYRON DONALDS!
Or BYRON DONALDS!
“It is really disingenuous to claim Gaetz and the others ‘sided with Democrats’.”

There aren't any true conservatives in Congress from what I've seen, just pols that give some conservative principles lip service. Jordan is probably as good as we are likely to get from inside the government.
I think the issue is transparency. If you have only 1/3 of the legislative process on your side, then show in detail where you’re fighting the battles. Don’t just claim it. Show it.
If you’re trying to go to regular order, show the battle in full detail. Where is the obstruction, who is obstructing, etc.?
Forget the notion that good faith negotiations must be done in secret. BS. That’s actually a sign that bad faith is in the works.
Finally, for a year long action, don’t start the process of informing just a few weeks prior.
I’ll take him!
2X National Champ
I like him.
Gaetz made the right call in leading the ouster of McCarthy. And now, the more that comes to light it reinforces Gaetz actions.
As for Jordan backing McCarthy, I don’t hold that against him. Had he joined with the 8, he would never be able to garner the support of McCarthy moderates needed in order to get him across the threshold to Speaker.
Just food for thought, what if Trump, Jordan and the 8, worked in unison to overthrow McCarthy?
It’s possible, and if so, applaudable!!!
YES!! JORDAN!!!!!!
He’s great so far, but he’s too new.
Jordan has seniority!
Unfortunately, the way the Congress works, the House doesn't have a lot of tools to defeat a opposition Senate or White House. A government shutdown is a drastic option, but it is the best tool available, and a Speaker should not be afraid to use it.
McCarthy was afraid to use the leverage he had- and I don't know why. My guess is that personal power and adulation was more important than doing what is best for America. Or maybe he truly believed that large deficits, green deal spending, and the war in Ukraine are in the best interests of America. I don't know.
Here we have a rare chance to start over, and I think that any candidate for speaker that talks about conciliation, unity, or bi-partisanship should be rejected.
Then who?
