He'll likely have the support of conservatives and others in the right wing of the GOP conference, but it's unclear if he can win the support of moderates. Who in the right wing of the conference is not conservative?

I have a tendency to agree with your thought, to a degree. I think others were the architects of the plan and Jordan knew about, maybe agreed with it in theory but remained loyal to McCarthy publicly.

Jordan would have to take the job knowing it may be his last in government other than a run for higher office. Kinda like a police chief nominee being of retirement age before taking the job. They can’t control a rogue cop or mayor.
It would be high stakes for Jordan but who else do we turn to?
I’ve said it here before. Chiseled good looks. That stuff counts.

I think more has come out about this situation that sheds new light on this thought.

If he’s the controlled opposition great talker as many suspect, then it wont take long to smoke out the real JJ. I want to be wrong about him but time will tell. It always does.

I have always said that the man you want for an important and powerful job is a man who is qualified but does not want it but will do it reluctantly for the good of all. Jordan has said he does not want the job before but I wonder if he is qualified to be such a negotiator / leader / deal maker?

The only way Trump would work would be if he dropped out of the presidential race. Also, would he want the job?

We need more as speaker. I don’t see him as having gravitas to be a ‘bomb thrower’ and stand firm on positions.
Patience, Grasshopper. We have shown we can pull the trigger, and are moving in the right direction. If Jordan gets picked with Republican unanimity, it will show how far we have come since the days of Hastert and Ryan.
We move closer to the target with each iteration. Jordan also knows that he can't betray the base quickly or obviously.

As speaker there would be no fallback should he fail. The new blood would be at his expense.

Litmus test for speaker, in my opinion: (1) No aid to Ukraine, (2) Build the wall, close the border, even with troops, (3) No amnesty, including no DACA, and (4) Allow and encourage impeachment of Myorkus, Garland, and Biden?
Who can give us those four?
