This is another benefit of the Russian invasion that I pointed out last year when the Russian messaging was that the Europeans would freeze to death as they were starving, a weakening of the environmental left, and a growing voice for more conservative politicians.
Having closed their last nuclear plants early this year, they have no choice for reliable base power. Lignite btw is the most polluting of all the fossil fuels. Halfway between coal and peat. But it’s what they have, along with wood.
