The NYPD has arrested and charged the suspect in the fatal stabbing of Brooklyn community activist Ryan Thoresen Carson.
Brian Dowling, 18, was arrested at an apartment in Bedford Stuyvesant on Thursday morning. He has since been charged with murder and is currently being held in a Brooklyn police station.
Police were looking for the black Champion sweatshirt he was wearing when they showed up at the apartment and found him today.
They were seen removing the sweatshirt in a brown paper bag, and the knife he is said to have used in the attack.
It is not far from where Carson, 32, was stabbed to death while he waited for a bus with his girlfriend at 3.50am on Monday.
Dowling was previously described as 'emotionally and mentally disturbed'.
He is understood to work at a school in Clinton Hill and is so unhinged that his own aunt reported him to police two months ago after he broke his girlfriend's belongings in a fight.
Carson spearheaded liberal causes like creating supervised drug injection sites across the city.
His girlfriend, according to now locked-down social media profiles, was an avid BLM activist who, among other remarks, used the cop-hating acronym ACAB in some posts.
Their friends say he would consider his killer the 'victim of a broken system' and would want his death to be used to continue advocating for social justice causes.
Yesterday, friends set up a GoFundMe account for Carson's girlfriend. They have so far raised $60,000.
It remains unclear what prompted Dowling to attack. He was seen in the video at first walking past Carson and Morales, before turning back.

Why are they raising money for the girlfriend? She wasn't his wife or family. Why is she entitled to $60,000 (and eventually more)?
