House Republicans have chosen Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., as their nominee for speaker after huddling behind closed doors for over two hours on Wednesday.
GOP lawmakers voted via secret ballot for who they will put up as speaker in a House floor vote, which will likely come sometime this week.
It comes after former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., was ousted in a vote by eight members of his own party and all House Democrats last week. That moment marked the first time in history the U.S. House of Representatives voted to remove its own leader.
The contest to replace him quickly became a two-man race between Scalise and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.
Scalise has been McCarthy’s longtime No. 2, despite a years long rivalry between the two

I did as well but I suspected all along that the R’s were not going to go with anyone who might be an effective leader. The Republican Party is infested with RINOs and is very uncomfortable with with anyone who could advance the conservative agenda. They simply won’t allow that.
What did you expect? The GOP majority who voted against ousting Kevin were going to vote for Jordan (whom I like)??
The poplist gang of eight had no plan, no strategy beyond joining with the Dims to oust Kevn McCarthy. Whatever they are and however much I agree with them on many issues, they have not demonstrated they can lead the House GOP, and berating the other GOP members does not enhance any idea of leading them. When you are friends and when you and your friends have some disagreements, you do not build any coalition with them on anything if you cannot make any compromises even with your friends.
