I'd say Israel is being a lot nicer than I would be against another population that voted in Nazis.
How much warning did Hamas give before attacking? Oh right; none.
It’s a few dozen miles at most so yeah it’s possible. They go south to get out of the way. Major displacement of course, major disruption and crowding of course. Major changes to the landscape that could last a generation depending on the resistance.
I obviously don’t know their plans but it seems Israel intends to go in with ground troops and sweep for weapons caches and demolish the underground tunnels (which are reportedly as much as 6 stories deep). If Israeli troops are met with too much street fighting resistance they will pull back and soften the ground with air strikes and tanks and artillery. That is what I mean by generations. The place will be uninhabitable for countless years if Israel has to devastate the infrastructure under which Hamas has been hiding. Better if the innocents leave and let Israel take out the Hamas war machine with minimal destruction of civilian infrastructure so they have some places to return.
On the potentially positive side, the evacuees could be able to get food, water and medical care in that safe zone. I would bet some negotiation for those provisions are going on now maybe supplied through Egypt or by sea from Europe. Israel does need to allow for a humanitarian corridor.
But then what? Move everyone back north and repeat in the south?

I think Israel has no intention of keeping that territory, only cleaning it of Hamas and their ilk and eliminate their capacity to make war. The innocents should go. They will get it back, and probably a ton of reconstruction money will flow if the Palestinian self rule government can keep a lid on the religious zealots.
Blinken met with King Abdullah of Jordan and Palestinian President Abbas yesterday morning. I would suggest they have a plan to reinstate Fatah/Palestinian Authority rule. It’s not just Israel that wants Hamas to go. They all do. Including Egypt. Hamas and their ideological brethren are holding the entire region from moving into more moderate prosperous peaceful societies.

I think I am following you, I’d have to look and see how Israel is framing this. The surprise attack is over, Israel declared war, now it is Israel’s turn, if you will, to respond, and execute that work to hunt down and kill Hamas. What do you call it?
By the time Israel roots out Hamas, there won’t be anything left standing in the north. That is, presuming Hamas doesn’t melt into the population and disappear south themselves.
I see in the camera views, middle or south Gaza, leaflets are floating down, dispersed in the area by Israel.
Why? Did we warn Japan pre-Nagasaki and
pre-Hiroshima? I don’t think so. What purpose does this serve? It gives evil the opportunity to live to fight another day. Stupid.

It’s been reported that Egypt knew and did warn Netanyahu. And he did nothing to prevent it or prepare for it. Don’t know if it’s true or not.

Urban building-to-building, house-to-house warfare that is coming to Gaza would kill most of the 2 million if they didn’t evacuate and Israel would get blamed. Okay, no matter what happens, Israel will get blamed. So calling for the evacuation will save the smarter folks.
Let’s see, how many Islamic countries whining about Israel are willing to give any of them asylum?
