I just heard Blinken speaking from Qatar that Hamas is blocking the roads south, trying to keep the civilians from leaving the area. I interpreted this as they want to keep civilians trapped as shields to protect their assets in the north.
Of course some Hamas will blend in with the civilians including those who do flee south. They always have hid behind and beneath civilians. Again I don’t know what the Israelis plan is exactly, but it has to be related not just to killing or capturing the known Hamas leaders, but eliminating their capacity to make war. It’s a reasonable goal not just for the Israelis but for the Palestinians. The Palestinians need a reasonable leadership. They don’t have to like Israel or the Jews, but it’s in their interest to settle this dispute, designate borders for two people, stop warring, and they will all eventually prosper.
