Republican Congresswoman Debbie Lesko is not running for reelection in Arizona.

Lesko announced Tuesday that she will not seek another term for Arizona's 8th congressional district.

She released the following statement:

It has been a great honor to serve the people of Arizona's 8th Congressional District in Congress, however, I have decided not to run for reelection in 2024.

I want to spend more time with my husband, my 94-year-old mother, my three children, and my five grandchildren.

The “spend time with the family excuse…” Someone just made a plea agreement.

She’s the new Liz Cheney; do the damage even if it means the end of your career. Kamikaze “Republican”.

It’ll be interesting to see if Kari Lake pivots to run for this seat or if she stays in the Senate race.

Appears she voted for Jim Jordan today. I don’t know the rest of her history.

She’s great. Strong supporter of Trump, excellent communicator, she will be missed. She’s probably sick of all the backstabbing in DC

“....that’s about the safest republican seat there is...”

It’s pretty safe, but nowhere near “safest”. Paul Gosar’s district is much more Republican than this one.

In 2022 Lesko had no opposition in either the primary or general elections. As of the last FEC report at the end of September, her campaign had over $1,000,000 cash on hand which perhaps is hers to keep now.

Lesko would have had some Democrat opposition this time, but nothing serious and whoever steps up to run in the district will be solidly favored. The Rats are already salivating (and rightly so) about flipping 2 other districts in Arizona and aren’t likely to waste much time or money on this one.

Good for her. I can understand not wanting to be in that do-nothing town. And more important to serving in government is God, family, and then country. Appears she has done well for the people of Arizona and the USA.
