Actually, it’s the 2nd highest. Only the court of appeals is higher. (I lived in NYS for around 30 years)

You may have lived in NY for 30 years but I’d wager you didn’t practice much law in NY during that time. The Supreme Court has *two* layers above it (the appellate division and the Court of Appeals)
