“The time has now come for me to take responsibility for this failure, which is why I now call on the United States Congress to ban assault rifles, like the one used by the sick perpetrator of this mass killing in my hometown of Lewiston, Maine,” said Golden, who represents a largely rural district that includes Lewiston.
“To the victims and their families,” he said, “I ask for your forgiveness and support as I seek to put an end to these terrible shootings.”

What makes him think that banning so called assault weapons will end these shootings?
Knives are assault weapons - so are machetes, hammers, drills... just about anything can be used to “assault” people. Seems to me they should be going after Law Enforcement who had this guy on their radar and did nothing.
ONE Good Guy/Gal/Yet To Decide with a NUG would have ended that Yahoos day, with justified dispatch.

The elites want to take guns from the little people. They want to remove the little people’s ability to protect themselves. That is all.
Golden always served in a district that voted red for POTUS. Should be beatable. Never happens. Maine is into their guns.
Well I agree this outcome was a consequence of the right to bear arms. If it was a duty to bear arms, armed citizens could have stopped this.
Approval of the RTKBA was taking an upswing after the attack on Israel. How fortunate we had a major mass shooting to tamp things down.
