RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Saudi officials have firmly warned the United States in recent days that an Israeli ground incursion into the Gaza Strip could be catastrophic for the Middle East.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., a member of the Armed Services Committee, was one of 10 senators who met last weekend with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom’s de facto ruler, in Riyadh, the Saudi capital.
“The Saudi leadership was hopeful that a ground operation could be avoided for reasons of stability as well as the loss of life,” Blumenthal told The New York Times on Thursday. Saudi officials warned it would be “extremely harmful,” he added.
Senior Saudi officials have delivered even more forceful exhortations to their American counterparts in multiple conversations, raising their concerns that a ground invasion could turn into a disaster for the entire region, according to one Saudi official and a second person with knowledge of the discussions.
The exchanges came as tensions rippled outward from Gaza. Essentials such as water and fuel are increasingly scarce as Israel bombards and besieges the enclave in response to the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas, the armed Palestinian group that rules Gaza.

You don’t need to sweeten the pot—I’m already bought in.
Why are so many people trying to make this happen?
Oh it will be, for the evil-monsters, (Hamas).
I think Saudi Arabia wants the U.S. to invade Gaza.
“I think Saudi Arabia wants the U.S. to invade Gaza.”
You discern that from this article?
1000’s of troops moving into Gaza
Heavy clashes reported
Lots of action in Gaza

Hate to wake them up but - look around, the region already is, since the 600s or so.
IDF Reservists in an urban CQB environment will lead to massive losses for both.
New York Times. Richard Blumenthal-all I need to know…..
Trying to pressure U.S. and Israel into a cease fire.
My GAS meter broke when I saw that Palanimal child spitting on the corpse of the young woman being paraded on the bed of a vehicle (the Israeli rave?).
All bets are off. My compassion meter is now broke as well.
They really tore it this time.
Dick learned that the hard way in Danang - we should all heed his advice. /s
That’s the givvashitometer in layman’s terms:)
I am pretty sure that none of the “ARAB’ countries want any HAMAS refugees.

Yep
As always the Saudi’s are only interested in protecting their own butts. They spent years placating the Jihadis and now they fear they will turn their guns and knives on the kingdom.
The fear is justified. But what they haven’t yet realized is that the fate of the kingdom and Israel and inextricably linked. If Israel falls the kingdom will soon be next.
True. Which is part of the plan. “World Peace” is clever at a Miss America pageant but leads to mass murder if there is not a strong defense capability.
NONVIOLENT Tibet fell to the Communist Chinese (October 6, 1950 – May 23, 1951) with women and girls raped in front of males before they were killed, women impregnated to dilute the Tibetan race and slave labor programs forced onto the survivors.
Later:
The Dalai Lama and some 80 supporters fled into exile in India on March 31, 1959. Some 87,000 Tibetans and 2,000 Chinese government troops were killed, and some 100,000 Tibetans fled as refugees to India, Nepal, and Bhutan during the conflict.

The Dalai Lama said in several interviews and books: “As for me, I am a Communist. Communism the best approach to fair distribution of resources among people.”
No ground invasion needed. There are many ways of exterminating a cockroach without physically squashing it.
Simply destroy all means of reproduction. Remove all structures, water, food and oxygen, etc.
Gaza was once a dessert wasteland. It is time to return it to its natural habitat.
“Saudi officials have firmly warned the United States in recent days that an Israeli ground incursion into the Gaza Strip could be catastrophic for the Middle East.”
This is nothing more than casual conversation. We aren’t invading, we are not alone in Israel’s support, and we are being shot at in other countries so we are part of the incident whether we want it or not. (But only our part)
When did Saudi get so smart that they can figure out missiles, tanks, and artillery will do a variety of damage. You might have thought they knew this before now. And they, also, should have determined there’d be a retaliation for all this. Is there an IQ problem there?

Indiscriminate destruction of buildings, thermobarics, given civilians limited time to leave and attacking even if they didn’t.
At that point Grozny had 200K people with maybe 3000 Chenchen fighters.
Gaza is times 10 on both counts.
The Russians used 20K troops, and “claimed” 400 killed and 1800 casualties so multiply those by ten as well.
Israel can’t hack the backlash from doing those tactics. They are too exposed to the global economy and sanctions. Not to mention a weak Biden Administration and domestic leftists in Israel.
