Societal order is beginning to collapse in the besieged Gaza Strip after thousands of desperate people raided UN warehouses in search of food, amid continuing bombardment by Israeli airstrikes and a widening ground offensive as the war enters its fourth week.
Thomas White, the head of the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), said on Sunday that wheat, flour and hygiene supplies had been taken the day before from several UN-run centres across the blockaded 41km by 12km strip, home to more than 2 million trapped people.
“This is a worrying sign that civil order is starting to break down after three weeks of war and a tight siege,” White said. “The needs of the communities are immense, if only for basic survival, while the aid we receive is meagre and inconsistent.”
Basic services in Gaza have crumbled after three weeks of a near-total blockade imposed by Israel, leaving people exposed to serious outbreaks of disease as streets overflow with sewage, and food, water and medicine run out. The UN considers the siege a war crime. Israel has also sharply escalated an already devastating aerial campaign on the coastal exclave on Friday night that has killed more than 8,000 people, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
Under the cover of strikes and artillery, Israeli ground troops have begun moving into the north of the strip in Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun in what the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, described as the “second stage” of the war triggered by Hamas. The Palestinian militant group killed 1,400 people across southern Israel and kidnapped 230 hostages during its unprecedented rampage on 7 October.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said that over the past 24 hours they had hit 450 targets belonging to Hamas, which gained control of Gaza in 2007 including command

Starting?
They should have left when they were told to.
Oh well.
if they had half a brain they would be storming across the border with Egypt instead of raiding UN supplies
ping
The UN workers are way too busy fighting The Climate Crisis to worry about food and stuff
If they’re rebelling against the Hamas distribution program that gives to terrorists first, they may actually be starting to make things better!
See my small violin and my give-a-damn meter.
Their pals ham-ass might just shoot them. And of course blame the Israelis for it.
Gaza had civil order? Who knew?
One huge street gang, there are no “innocents” in Gaza above the age of about six. The females are as bad as the males (think Rashida Tlaib), and they voted in Hamas as the “government” in about as democratic a manner as anywhere in the Muslim world.
Wow. First they are terrorists so why do you reiterate without question anything they say. Second, WTF have we been doing funding a terrorist run anything. Of couse they did this expecting no real consequences. When the global rules based US taxpayer funded order did that they proved to Hamas they were just stupid.
They couldn’t, no other country would take them.
Not an apologist for them as I do know they need to do some navel gazing and look inward as to why this is happening to them.
but then that would be a Christian/Jewish philosophy of sin, eh?
Maybe Hamas stole it but the UN claim that Hamas terrorists are innocent wee children so others are blamed for the missing supplies food...
Agreed, however their own terrorists blocked them from leaving.
Would those people be the same ones who followed the Hamas animals into Israel so they could “piggy back’ on a golden opportunity to murder unarmed Israelis with the same imputiny that Hamas claimed for themselves?????
The Gaza residents are behaving in a manner that I believe the people in the blue cities will if there is any disruption of services or national emergency. I’d bet on it.
“Civil order ‘starting to break down’ in Gaza as people raid UN warehouses”
Let me translate the above from Arabic: “Civil order starting to break down as Palestinian civilians finally decide to stand up to Hamas, rather than continue to support them.”
Agree with you on that. It is why I added the “prepper” keyword. It won’t be any different here or anywhere in the world under the same circumstances. This is the SHTF moment.
I agree. If there is food (or gas, or soap) in the UN warehouses, it's there because Hamas refuses to distribute it to civilians.
