Sports Betting to Hit Florida in December Following ‘Historic Legal Victory’

Sports betting and other games will hit Florida beginning in December at Seminole casinos, the Seminole Tribe of Florida announced Wednesday following a recent legal victory, which doubles as a delayed win for the DeSantis administration.

A multibillion-dollar gambling deal between Florida and the state’s Seminole Tribe has been held up in court for over two years, but last week, the Supreme Court opened the door for it to resume over two years after the Florida legislature approved the gambling deal, which “permitted sports betting and also authorized the Tribe to add craps and roulette to its current casinos and build additional casinos on the Tribe’s Hollywood reservation that is already home to Hard Rock Hotel & Casino,” as Politico detailed.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.”

BWUHAHAHAHA!!!! Holy crap, that is positively the #1 most naive thing ever uttered on Free Republic. Vinnie “Two-Socks” Canabaloni and Tony “Running Dear” Dafoni just spat out their Macallan.

We are one of the few countries that doesn’t allow sports gambling, most of the rest of the world has had sports gambling for years.

Legalized Sports Gambling actually removes a lot of the incentive to fix the outcomes of games, it brings the gambling aboveboard, the legal bookies are the first to know something is up if there is a strange amount of money going on one side or the other.

The problem I have with this deal is not legalized gambling, the issue is it limits who can take bets on sports, the Seminole Indian Tribe in Florida is going to setup a sports betting operation, it will be huge, it would be much better if all legal sports books in the USA were allowed to take bets from Florida residents.

The stupid part is, a person can bet on sports now, except the bookies are all offshore in foreign countries, the competition on lines would give the gambler a much better opportunity to win versus being forced to deal with one Sports Book.

If you don’t live in Florida, you may not know we’ve had gambling in one form or another for decades, sports betting is the thing that’s been illegal.

Over the years, we’ve had horse racing, dog racing, Jai Alai, Bingo and other things to bet on.

Outside of Las Vegas, about 19 states have legalized sports gambling.

Truly naive comment by the original poster, legalized sports gambling actually reduces the potential impact of organized or the Mafia.

Sports betting is why I will never watch or purchase a ticket to a sports venue. It’s corrupt to its core. Main stream sports are a scam.

I’d like to know how they started. What was the seminal Seminole casino, if you will.

Sports betting comes to Maine on Friday. Not worth a full post on it.

I have a lot of friends here in FL that bet sports continually. None of them have a legal book obviously.

I’m neither a fan nor participant in sports betting. But it seems the hucksters that always profit generously off of the Hollywood, sports, entertainment gambling racket are typically Democrat pols. They create NJ like corruption by taking from the poor and giving to the political class.

But being a libertarian conservative I prefer freedom over government controls. So for me it is double edged sword that might be better for society if it was non existent.

I still believe that the Power Ball and Mega Mils could be rigged by highly politicized one party state governments.

“...sports betting is the thing that’s been illegal.”

Florida didn’t even try to start with “MEDICAL sports betting”.
