Senate GOP launches offensive to overcome Tuberville's holds

A group of Senate Republicans attempted to overcome Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s (R-Ala.) blockade of more than 370 military nominations, marking the first time GOP members have attempted a maneuver of this kind.

Led by Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Senate Republicans sought to move numerous promotions for military officers but were blocked by Tuberville as part of his holds that have lasted nearly eight months over the Pentagon’s year-old policy that covers travel expenses for military personnel who travel for abortion care.

“America needs to have our best players, most combat-capable leaders, on the field. And right now, that’s not happening. It needs to change,” Sullivan, a 30-year member of the Marine Corps, said on the floor, adding that 89 percent of all general officer positions in the military will be affected by the current holds by the end of the year.

The Alaska Republican added that the holds are “hugely disruptive to readiness” and that the military has a “huge readiness and retention problem,” saying that “these holds are not helping.”

“There is growing bitterness within the ranks of our military driven by this fact,” Sullivan said. “The men and women in the military who’ve served our country so well for decades … have made huge sacrifices, multiple deployments, now their careers are being punished over a policy dispute that they had nothing to do with and no power to resolve.”

“The idea that somehow some of these officers are woke and desk jockeys is ridiculous,” he added.

Republican Sens. Joni Ernst (Iowa), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Todd Young (Ind.) and Mitt Romney (Utah) joined Sullivan on the floor. All of those involved, sans Romney, have a military background.

Well once again it must be said. I wish Republicans would fight Democrats as hard as they fight other Republicans.

Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska)...“The idea that somehow some of these officers are woke and desk jockeys is ridiculous,”

Sullivan is a moron.

Cool... then of it’s that important, all they have to do is follow the law and stop paying for women to fly to other states for abortions. Simple.

DOD values abortion more than readiness.

A single senator can’t really block anything. He’s just refusing to cave and allow unanimous consent on a stupid measure to bypass the usual confirmation process.

He even pointed out that everyone whose confirmation has allegedly been blocked could have been confirmed already if the Senate had simply voted on them one at a time.

“now their careers are being punished over a policy dispute that they had nothing to do with and no power to resolve.”

Then maybe you better talk to senior officers who do have that power and support Tuberville.

Yes. I heard it described by Sen. Tuberville (Heh, almost said “Coach Tuberville” because damn, he sure does talk like a coach!)

Yes.

So the douchebags on the Left are madly trying to find a way to not oblige without making it transparently clear that they wish to keep the mass-approval process intact (instead of breaking it up) because they want to use it to manipulate the electorate.

I'd like to see the number of US military personnel who travel for abortion care. Probably a handful.

The Democrats never give an inch, though - and their pals the cryptoDemocrats (the Republicans) never fight them.

“Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s (R-Ala.) blockade”

Senate could have confirmed every single one of them if they would just follow instructions. Just like these big spending bills, Shumer wants to approve bunches of these people at once. Tuberville said nope, we are voting on each one separately.

Officers promoted by Brandon are automatically not going to be any “combat-capable” leader.

That sit is true. They are promoted by Brandon.

They are ALL woke and desk jockeys.

“Senate Republicans sought to move numerous promotions for military officers but were blocked by Tuberville as part of his holds”

That’s a bold faced lie.

Every single swingin d*ck on that list can still be promoted INDIVIDUALLY.

Tuberville’s “block” prevents the senate promoting these individuals enmasse with a single vote.

They can approve them individually - the only thing stopped is approving them en masse.

They refuse to do this because they don’t really care, and want to make political points.
