Mercury is closer to the sun than Venus, and has (almost) no atmosphere.

Venus has a thick atmosphere, which is mostly carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid.

Surface temperature of Mercury (daylight side): 800 F

Surface temperature of Mercury (night side): -300 F

Surface temperature of Venus (all over): 860 F

Clearly, gas "causes warming" (i.e., traps solar heat).

Read the article and debate those points. Unless someone has been to those 3 places, that is non-proven scientific consensus, most likely proven through peer-review. Not hard facts.
