If people want the CG then they will take actions to stop what hurts the CG. Until there is enough pain felt there will be no change.
That's part of the problem. The Coast Guard traditionally recruited from a pool of individuals who wanted to be a part of rescue and paramilitary operations.
Now, they're signing up to be the marine patrol division of the federales.
When the government loses legitimacy in the eyes of the people, they become detached from any sense of civic responsibility much less patriotism.
“Serving your country” is a foreign concept to an entire generation, who think the uniformed services are for suckers — if they think about them at all.
I'm almost looking forward to the day when it will be difficult to find an unoccupied light post in order to hang yet another politician...

The CG was Treasury, never was nor intended to be military - recruits from people who so not want to be in the Merchant Marine or Navy, but want to serve.
The CG boats always were maritime patrol boats. Its their mission - not new.
The problem is the Admin wants to harm/destroy the USA and will use any means to achieve that goal, cf 0bama
Take it up with the (0bama) Biden admin
We, the people, want the CG - among many other things the above Admin is intentionally trying to destroy.

Yes, we do want the CG and all that it does (which I believe is perhaps the most useful government organization of all), but when your government is too far gone because of rampant corruption what do you do?

What are the odds that two women in organizations where men are the overwhelming majority rise to the very top ranks? It’s almost like there’s some type of equal opportunity affirmative action going on.
They are tasked with plenty of overseas missions that do not need to be done by the CG.
