They want everything to run on electricity. That requires millions of tons of copper wire for transmission lines, generator windings, electric motors, etc. Where do the "eco-protestors" think the copper comes from?
Like all radical activists, the ‘cause’ is irrelevant. BLM, Antifa, Trans, Eco protesters are all interchangeable. Paid agitators to sew chaos. Right out of the American Marxist playbook.
A lot of these eco anarchists are funded by foreign countries - the Russians were backing protests against our pipelines so I wouldn’t doubt some copper mining country is likewise trying to hamstring copper mining in Panama.
