Ukraine says naval drones struck two crewed Russian warships in Crimea

The Ukrainian military struck two Russian military transport ships with sea-based drones Thursday evening, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry announced.

The transport ships were crewed and carried armored vehicles for transport in the Black Sea, the Ukrainian military claimed, also publishing video of the attacks. It was unclear whether the ships were sunk.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry claimed similar transport ships were being used as makeshift anti-aircraft platforms around Crimea.

The Russian military has not commented on the attacks, but it claimed two Ukrainian aerial drones were shot down over Crimea overnight.

Ukraine has focused strikes on Russia’s naval forces in recent months, including other sea-based drone attacks, as well as artillery and air strikes.

Attack on boats in Crimea: more than 20 dead

The enemy announced an attack by surface drones on two of our Project 11770 “Serna” landing boats in Crimea.

A source in the Black Sea Fleet spoke about the consequences of this strike.

The boats were seriously damaged.

According to preliminary data, only one of them will be repaired, the second is completely out of order.

Accurate information about the fate of the boats will be known in about a week; an assessment by specialists is needed.

It also turned out that on one of the boats there were not only crew members, but also military personnel who boarded shortly before the impact.

As a result, unfortunately, four boat crew members and 17 paratroopers were killed. Two units of armored vehicles (according to preliminary data, BTR-82) and air defense systems were lost.

It is now becoming clear why the boat crews and other services did not notice the enemy drones, and they attacked unhindered.

If the US wishes to effectively help the UKEs fight the Invading Russians, a crash program of manufacturing all types of drones and delivering them to them with intelligence to direct them would seem relatively cost effective and problematic for the Russians to deal with.

We should give the Ukes the drone ability to sink each and every Russian ship that comes near them.
And to drone attack and harass every Russian vehicle and troop gathering of two or more soldiers. If we can’t keep up with artillery ammo, let’s swarm drones.
