Back in Iowa Saturday morning, Ron DeSantis said he wanted snowbirds visiting the Sunshine State to be able to vote without going back home.
The 2024 presidential candidate told supporters in Muscadine that he wanted caucus sites in Southwest Florida.
“But I do know with so many people that go down in Florida, I have to figure out — I may petition the Iowa Republican Party to have some caucus sites in Southwest Florida,” the Governor quipped.
“So people could just go, I mean, do one in Naples, one in Marco Island. You know, whatever you need to do.”
The Governor’s trial balloon was included as part of a very familiar riff about how happy Iowans are with the conservative governance of his key endorser, Kim Reynolds and how his children are looking forward to “seeing snow” in an early voting state.

It’s also unclear how those elections would be made secure in a way that accords with Iowa law. DeSantis has been an exponent of so-called election security for years, but if this proposal came to pass, it seems ripe for potential exploitation and subversion.

How about Caucus sites in DC too. Maybe a few in the homes od the 10% who supported Christie in Jersey. Sounds great, Ill petition the elite.

Most “snowbirds” I’ve know have told me they vote in both states where they live depending upon the weather. Absentee in one state and at the polls where they work in the other.

Well states and federal government allow and enable voting in remote areas, so this isn’t so far fetched. It would be better to get rid of caucuses and adopt voting, which would allow absentee voting, especially be military, people in hospitals, retirement homes, etc.
It’s the Cruz strategy.
Has there been a GOP politician who has had this epic of a national meltdown in recent years? He would have cruised to the 2028 nomination and now he has zero shot at it after siding and being a complete shill for the MIC/UniParty.
I have long thought that many snowbirds vote in 2 places every year. They have two different addresses, and can vary their name by putting their middle initial in one, and not in the other. It’s pretty clear that the first time a person gets caught voting illegally, they can say ….. oh, I didn’t understand. ….
This now applies to millions of non-citizen illegals.
People with a conscience and a proper set of moral values would not do this. That is why the overwhelming majority of those to do it vote Dem, the same party that is against cleaning up the voter rolls.
Most of the “poll workers” in Arizona are elderly “Snowbirds”.
And this is the guy who’s going to clean up elections?
Gee, I didn’t realize that the individuals that participate in the Iowa caucuses, have had such a horrible time getting to them since they began in the 1800’s.

Iowa can set up telecaucus if this is an issue for them.
But it’s not.
