Authorities are looking for two suspects who stole a wallet from an elderly woman at a Safeway, the Gilroy Police Department said on social media. The alleged theft happened Thursday when the suspects stole the victim’s wallet from her shopping cart.
Police said the male suspect distracted the woman by having a conversation with her. The female suspect then allegedly walked to the victim’s shopping cart and stole a purse that contained the wallet.
The suspects tried using the elderly woman’s credit cards to make purchases at Walmart, according to Gilroy police.
Police say anyone with information about the suspects is asked to contact the department at 408-846-0350.

It’s bad when Salinas heads North and San Jose goes south. What’s left that’s safe?
Yup, when I go home to Gilroy I can’t believe what a dump it has become. What’s worse is that it has been done intentionally.
Savages.
How usual
In the last two weeks I have watched thieves just walk out of our grocery stores and Walmart with their arms full or a loaded up shopping cart.
Everyone just goes on as if nothing happened because, under the law, nothing has happened.....
FUBAR
I see so many women lay their purses down. I wear my fanny pack, concealed as much as possible. Still vulnerable from elsewhere if you’re old and carry a cane or use a walker. Parking lots are dangerous to all but esp. to easy elderly targets.
One distracts the person and the other steals the wallet.
Half a perp plus half a perp equals one of normal intelligence. Not that they understand math.
As usual I do not understand how the average person who sees this going on and knows it is true no matter that the stories are deleted from news shows, and they know the soft on crime Dems brought this in, and they still vote Democrat again.
I have no respect for them.
Well shit. Can I do that too? I could use some prime cuts of meat!
Not ALL elderly targets.
Is this where it reeks of garlic?
it’s them again, Boo Boo
I wear a fanny pack slung over my shoulder, or a crossbody sling bag. Wear a windbreaker over it, so the strap on my back doesn't show. Another option is to wear a vest or jacket with interior pockets. Plus always: situational awareness.
Same for the whole state. It all dramatically changed and none of it good.
SPJNK
With a crime rate of 32 per one thousand residents, Gilroy has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One’s chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 31.
That’s the saddest, when you go back to a place you once loved and it’s wrecked. Very depressing.
Years ago I gave up my handbag. Went to slacks with pockets. Slim money clip and a kleenex in left pocket, credit card, car keys and nitroglycerin vial in right pocket. Comb and lipstick are in the car for touch-ups.
