DeSantis: I saw the video of that cop murdering George Floyd

"I saw the video of that cop murdering George Floyd. I was just absolutely appalled by what I saw. But I immediately asked folks -- both FDLE and others -- how in the hell could you even get away with doing that tactic? And sure enough, state of Florida, you do not put knee on a neck like that."

- Ron DeSantis

"All Americans were rightly sickened and revolted by the brutal death of George Floyd. My administration is fully committed that, for George and his family, justice will be served. He will not have died in vain."

I don't believe Chauvin was some bloodthirsty klansman. He was just another incompetent LEO who was too big for his britches. The result was a death while in custody.

My review and commentary from LEOs etc on FR was that Chauvin didn't apply the move correctly. Further his demeanor and attitude on tape speaks volumes to his character.

A competent cop, especially one who was in control of his emotions, would have neutralized Floyd - drugged up etc - without the theatrics. It happens daily in America, with competent LEOs dealing with drugged out citizens and people with cameras watching and filming. I suspect PLENTY of addicts die in custody without accompanying riots and destruction of property, because the cops Do Their Jobs.

While it's clear to me that Chauvin was guilty of manslaughter, I don't think he could get a fair trial in MN. Many of the charges were basically a dog piling. Indeed, Attorney General Ellison's amended charge (to include unintentional second-degree murder under the felony murder doctrine, alleging that Chauvin killed Floyd in the course of committing assault in the third degree) is strained at best, if not overtly political.

Eight minutes with his knee on Floyd’s neck too much overkill.

On the other hand...Donald J. Trump quotes:
“”The death of George Floyd on the streets of Minneapolis was a grave tragedy. It should never have happened. It has filled Americans all over the country with horror, anger, and grief.”

“At my request, the FBI and the Department of Justice are already well into an investigation as to the very sad and tragic death in Minnesota of George Floyd....”
https://x.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1265774767493148672?s=20

“I want to express our Nation’s deepest condolences and most heartfelt sympathies to the family of George Floyd.”

There are more...

Neither distinguished themselves on this one.

I agree.

The prostrations the entire damn country gave to St. Floyd (and the billions of $$$ given to the BLM grift) during the summer of '20 was a particularly disgraceful time for our nation.

Nobody anywhere in the public arena, not DeSantis, not Trump, had the courage to say, "F*** that guy. He got what he deserved!"

I think that statement was Trump’s attempt to prevent the riots that ensued, and was surely before the autopsy results showing Floyd’s drug overdose.

Rush also jumped on the police, expressing horror at the "murder" of George Floyd.

Nothing new for conservatives to jump to premature conclusions so they can virtue signal to leftists.

I recall National Review jumping on the LAPD as soon as the Rodney King beating tape was release, likening the police beating to something that only vicious police states do.

While it's clear to me that Chauvin was guilty of manslaughter,...

How is this clear to you? The facts I see make it clear to me that George Floyd died of a drug overdose and Derick Chauvin did not kill him.

What exactly did Chauvin do that caused Floyd's death?

You can say those sorts of things in private conversations, but public figures would be crucified for saying anything like that.

We all know more now 3 years later about George Floyd then we knew right at the time. At the time, the media presented it as a case of a racist cop using undue force that killed a man. Now we know better , but at the time , people’s statements were based on the limited knowledge we had at that time.
