20,000 Military Age Ukrainian Men Fled Abroad to Avoid Conscription, Another 20,000 Caught at Border

Huge numbers of young Ukrainian men fled the country to avoid being drafted in the army to fight Russia, a report states, with many swimming border rivers or walking cross-country to avoid detection.

Under Ukraine’s martial law, for the vast majority of Ukrainian males, it has been illegal to leave the country since the Russian invasion, a step taken by Kyiv to maintain its access to conscripts for the fight against Moscow’s occupation. Yet figures reveal tens of thousands have attempted to flee and avoid fighting.

Data from the border services of Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia acquired for an investigation by British state broadcaster the BBC claims 19,740 men aged between 18 and 60 are known to have “illegally crossed” into their territories from Ukraine since the start of Russia’s invasion last year. In addition to those that made it to a European neighbour, the Ukrainian government has claimed 21,113 people trying to flee Ukraine illegally have been caught during the war.

In all, the figures from Ukraine and its Western neighbours amount to some 40,853 Ukrainians who are known to have at least attempted to escape conscription and the war, a number of men equivalent to an entire medium-sized European army such as that of Romania or Hungary.

Things seem to be turning the wrong way for Ukraine. Their Counter-Offensive has gone South and they are running out of conscripts.

Where have Russians been fleeing to since mobilisation began?

On Oct. 4, Forbes Russia reported that the number of people who have left the country since Putin ordered the draft could be as high as 700,000, citing a Kremlin source.

Another 20,000 Caught at Border

Idly wondering how many bloody dumpsters it will take to hold the pieces of these 20,000 guys who will end up on the Eastern Front after a weekend's training...

Few want to be forced to die in a losing cause. These people all know Ukraine is losing and they want out.

Oh yeah? Meanwhile...

Russians abandon wartime Russia in historic exodus

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war has set off a historic exodus of his own people. Initial data shows that at least 500,000, and perhaps nearly 1 million, have left in the year since the invasion began — a tidal wave on scale with emigration following the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution and the Soviet Union’s collapse in 1991.

Now, as then, the departures stand to redefine the country for generations. And the flood may still be in its early stages. The war seems nowhere near finished. Any new conscription effort by the Kremlin will spark new departures, as will worsening economic conditions, which are expected as the conflict drags on.

The huge outflow has swelled existing Russian expatriate communities across the world, and created new ones.

This article is ridiculous.

7 million Ukrainians have fled west, and another 2-3 million have fled east. Poland alone has counted about 2.5 million Ukrainians.

And they are trying to tell us only 20K fled conscription?

The fled-category are mostly women, kids, and senior citizens.

I would take a guess that in the first week of the war...10,000 men in the age group of 18 to 40...left. Similar situation brewing for Russians in this age group as well.

In fairness, most of those who fled were women, children and elders. Fighting age men are leaving now, that’s due to things becoming more clear on the ground. Russia has set up defense lines and says “come and get us”. Russia shuts down areas of Ukraine for hours by doing flyovers of dangerous bombers (Air superiority). Just harassment but as Q-Bait has noted it works. People can’t accomplish much when hiding in bunkers, it’s good mental warfare by the Russians.

Ukraine Citizens should have been more careful about allowing a GloboHomoNazi Comedian to take power, however the Joke's on them.

I wonder how close we'll come to The Last Ukrainian Alive?

Don’t worry. It nowhere near matches the amount of Ukrainian propaganda that gets posted here daily. You UkieYipYappers are still far ahead in that category.

mostly smart & skilled people, too, just the kind Russia can't afford to lose ... the ones that don't want to throw their lives away in Putin's Ego wars

Do any want to be forced to die in a winning cause?

In fairness, most of those who fled were women, children and elders.

My friends and business associates in Krakow tell me there's plenty of young men among the "refugees" they see everywhere. They complain that many drive nice cars and have bid up housing prices in their area. It would make sense that those with money and connections were the first to leave. They weren't fools - they knew from the beginning they would be drafted.

So NO, I do not believe for a second that millions of able-bodied men did not flee Ukraine in Feb. 2022.

If your source is correct about 40,000 Ukrainian men have left to avoid the war. In Russia reportedly about 1,000,000 people have left to avoid the war. Like the men below leaving to avoid military service.

In case you aren't good at math at least 10 times as many Russians decided to flee to avoid military service.
