More free COVID-19 tests from the government are available for home delivery through the mail

WASHINGTON (AP) — Americans can order more free COVID-19 tests online for home delivery.

The U.S. government is offering to send another round of four at-home virus tests ahead of the typical surge in cases during the winter holiday season.

Anyone who did not order a batch of four COVID-19 tests in September can secure up to eight of them this time around starting Monday at COVIDtests.gov. The U.S. Postal Service will deliver them for free.

The Food and Drug Administration also approved updated COVID-19 vaccines in September in the hopes of revving up protection for Americans this winter. The shots target an omicron descendant named XBB.1.5, replacing older vaccines that targeted the original coronavirus strain and a much earlier omicron version. Shots are recommended for everyone age 6 months or older, but uptake has been slow.

U.S. taxpayers have spent tens of billions of dollars to develop COVID-19 tests, vaccines and treatments in the three years since the pandemic started.

Do you all remember those extremely large crowds of chinese commies waiting in line to be tested multiple times a day? And the tests were bogus anyway.

There’s a new LED billboard by the freeway, by Pfizer, cheerfully saying it’s time to come in for your next C-19 booster. The sorry thing is, there’s a percentage who will.

“More taxpayer funded Covid 19 test kits are available from the same government that used your tax dollars to create the bioweapon that you’re testing for. So you will know when the taxpayer subsidized lab experiment the government mandated you inject yourself with, didn’t work.”

There fixed it for those with an IQ over room temperature.

A disease so deadly, you need to take a test to see if you are sick.

That is seriously uninformed.

If you don't take a test, how do you know if you have a flu, a cold, or Covid? What if you have West Nile Virus or Zika virus? Or measles or rubella or chickenpox? Ebola or Marburg? You can't tell which virus is making a person sick just by looking.

A deadly disease doesn't cause people to drop dead in the streets the moment they catch it. It takes time. There is a delay between being exposed and having symptoms. The symptoms are mild at first, but get progressively worse. You start to have trouble breathing and generally feel terrible. You can go to the hospital and get admitted or not at this point, your choice. You do have a better chance of surviving if you get hospital care.

If the virus infecting you is rabies, by the time you have symptoms, it's too late. If it's Ebola, you have about 50% chance of surviving. If it's bird flu, your chance of surviving is between 30-60%.

The value of a test is to identify early on which virus has infected you. Then you can call your doctor and get an antiviral. The earlier treatment starts, the better the outcome.

A lot of older people do that. If it’s free, no matter what it is, they want it. My 85-year-old husband insisted on getting his. I asked him if he planned to use them and he said no, but they are free!

Some of the antivax rhetoric I see here is truly over-the-top.

Vaccine side effects result from the natural action of the immune system to fight disease. (This is true for ALL vaccines.)

No antigen test is going to tell you what side effects your immune system is causing.

All an antigen test can tell you is whether there is a protein from SARS-CoV-2. If there is, it is because you have a virus infection. It's probably Covid, but you should have a follow-up PCR test (which is much more accurate and sensitive) to verify.

Hmmm,if I wanted a list of compliant Americans I would offer free Covid test by mail. Wonder what our government would do with such a list?

That's because there is a percentage of us who actually understand that viruses mutate over time and that immunity against many pathogens is not permanent.

The new booster specifically targets an omicron variant, XBB.1.5. Because the omicron variants are all similar, the new vaccine will probably provide good protection against the other omicron variants.

Those of us who get the booster are far less likely to get sick, to be hospitalized, or to die than people who have never been vaccinated or who do not get the updated boosters.

Good. My old kits are expired.

Still, being able to test at home provided a lot of peace of mind when I got sick recently. The test was negative. I had a common cold.
