The money was always more important than the votes. But they're just not needed in the coalition anymore.

Yes. That is exactly what happened.

Jewish money (and also disproportionate academic influence) was important to the Left when they had little money and limited institutional power.

Now the Left controls every major institution in the country. Jewish money is no longer needed.

And it was inevitable that when the Israel / Palestine conflict flared up again, that Jews would be expelled from the Left/Friend coalition.
