Alberta invokes Sovereignty Act over federal clean electricity regulations

Alberta's United Conservative government has invoked its controversial Sovereignty Act for the first time by introducing a resolution to push back against the federal government's proposed Clean Electricity Regulations.

The resolution, tabled in the Alberta legislature Monday, instructs governments and provincial entities such as the Alberta Electric System Operator and the Alberta Utilities Commission to ignore the regulations when they come into force "to the extent legally permission."

The resolution also raises the possibility of Alberta setting up a Crown corporation to protect the private sector companies that provide electricity in the province.

The Clean Electricity Regulations, currently in draft form, lay out the rules for getting Canada's electricity grid to net zero emissions by 2035.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says the deadline is impossible for the province to meet without risking blackouts and high costs for consumers.

The government says investors are afraid of proposing new power generation projects in light of the CER. The Crown corporation could commission new natural gas-fired plants, make deals for small-scale nuclear reactors or buy existing gas-fired plants.

If Alberta built a couple of terawatt Nukes, they could tell the ROC to go pound sand.

The more Alberta can isolate itself, the better off we will be in Canada, our home and fascist land.

This is a pipe dream and a prescription for blackouts, freezing in the dark, etc.

Alberta needs to stop playing around and get on with secession. If Quebec can put that to a vote then so can Alberta!

Sounds like an opportunity for Trudeau to send in some troops.

CBC is Canadia’s state-owned media.

My Alberta relatives have long advocated this.

What they are going to find if they proceed is that the rules are not the same for Alberta as they are for Quebec.

I guess they should give it a shot, but they need to recognize if they want the Federal Gov’t to recognize a referendum, it never happen. The Federal gov’t will come up with some bullsh!t excuse of why it is different for Alberta, and Quebec and Ontario will support that.

Unless Alberta is prepared to go with a Unilateral Declaration of Independence, they are going to have a Referendum, get the result rejected, and whine and moan with their tails between their legs.

My opinion - this Globohomo Regime is not going to last. Not in Canada, and not in the USA.

Alberta needs to build what it will need for the future- starting with a Provincial Militia.

They really should while they still can. The Conservatives didn’t win by much last election. If they split the world would be shocked how quickly they prospered without the leftist a-holes in Ottawa standing on their necks

If states or provences can ignore the Central Government, are they really part of a nation?

This seems to be a rather serious deal.

They have.

Why do you think Deep States, plural, need to steal elections.

The problem is that Deep States refuse to take NO for an answer.

It’s a shot across the bow. Trudeau will have to respond. He’ll likely get all draconian and put them in their place.

Any draconian actions of the federal government will help justify and solidify Alberta’s actions. It could also cause Saskatchewan and Manitoba to also take steps to protect themselves from their own country.

If every province can go its own way, then Quebec isn’t so special any more and may want out.

Definitely, however how long does construction take? Add to that, all the preliminaries to get to the point of shovels in the ground. Even if the process started now, it might be 15-20 years or more, before one watt of power is produced. Crime Minister Castreau’s illegal (per the Federal Court) law requires the elimination of ALL fossil fuels in electrical production to be eliminated by 2035, barely 11 years from now.

I believe that Castreau takes this personally. Remember, when his (supposed) father, Pierre Trudeau brought in the National Energy Program, Ralph Klein, then Mayor of Calgary and eventually Premier of Alberta, made the famous comment, “Let those Eastern bastards freeze in the dark,” by cutting off all oil going East.

Ralph was so ticked off because it destroyed Alberta’s economy. Thousands of drilling rigs packed up and headed to the US. Houses in Calgary that sold for $120,000 before the NEP, could be purchased for $20,000, after the NEP! It took years to recover.

I believe that Castreau, being the 51 year old, with the personality
and MATURITY of a pre-teenage girl, is still p!ssed off that a Westerner would DARE to stand up to him, and DARED to stand up to his (supposed) father.

For True-dolt and his communist Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Canada, Steven Guilbeault, it is PERSONAL! (And, FWIW, it is PERSONAL for me, which is why I write:)

TUCK FRUDEAU!

CANADUH OUT OF ALBERTA!
ALBERTA OUT OF CANADUH!

Marc Lalonde, energy minister of the 1980’s, admitted the NEP was done to punish Alberta. In my books, Albertans should never have forgiven the federal government and remained permanently hostile to the country. The NEP cost Alberta $67 billion dollars.

I know I am.

Unfortunately, we are only at 20% support, if that. While we are growing, MANY are new immigrants and historically, moat immigrants FEAR ‘conservative’ politicians and see themselves as ‘Canadians’ who happen to live in Alberta. Also, ‘importing’ educated Ontarians and other ‘Laurentianists’ means they are bringing their ‘Laurentianist’ socialist ideas. In addition, they don’t want to have to go through Canada Customs, just to visit their relatives. It is HARD to convince all these newcomers to be ‘Albertans’ rather than ‘Canadians’.

Until Alberta is COMPLETELY screwed, we’ll never get 50%+1, to separate!
