The US still has steel mills? I thought all that work went to China and India years and years ago.
I, likewise, am astounded that US Steel is even still in business.
I know of five steel mills in Alabama that have shut down. If the issue is labor cost, they are more than welcome to come back to Alabama. Cost of living here is fairly inexpensive. A steel workers salary could provide a pretty good living here.
The Chinese make low grade structural steel. We make the very best, tool steel, medical, stainless etc. Also, we re-roll used steel like rails into finished product. In terms of technology, we are still the best.
