CADDO PARISH, La. (KSLA) - Retired Louisiana Supreme Court Justice E. Joseph Bleich has made a ruling in the election lawsuit filed by Caddo Parish sheriff candidate, John Nickelson.

That ruling came down Tuesday, Dec. 5. The judge ruled the results of the Nov. 18 runoff election, in which Henry Whitehorn defeated Nickelson by one vote, are declared void. It was further ordered a new runoff election shall be conducted. It’s expected that Whitehorn’s team will appeal this decision. They have until 9:56 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 8 to do so.

The ruling states “it was proven beyond any doubt that there were at least 11 illegal votes cast and counted” and that it is “legally impossible to know what the true vote should have been.”

The ruling goes on to highlight the following irregularities that affected the outcome of the runoff election:

* Two people voted twice
* Four invalid votes cast by interdicted persons who were unqualified voters

No mention in the article about those people being arrested and charged.... odd. They must be Democrats.

“What are the parties of the two candidates?”

The candidate that “won” by one vote was the democrat. Of course.

My old hometown, but haven't been back or kept up with local politics, however a friend there said the guy who lost is the good guy. So, good news.

As I noted before, this race should not have been even close.

Caddo Parish Population 237,848

Only 65% of the residents are registered to vote.

Party
Democratic 70,699 45.9%
Republican 43,167 28.0%
Other 40,124 26.1%
Total 153,960

The parish seat is Shreveport, LA with a population of 187,593 makes up 79% of the Parish so this race should never have been close.
