Illinois Property Taxes Make Biggest Jump in 30 Years Thanks to New Backdoor Tax Hike
Breitbart ^ | 12/10/2023 | Warner Todd Huston

The Local Government Revenue Recapture Act, is a law that allows cities, counties, and the state’s hundreds of different taxing bodies to “reacapture” their “lost” revenue [tax appeals] and also to shift the higher tax burden from the disappearing business property taxes to home owners, causing a near 30 percent jump in some cases in the burden on the state’s families.

The act allows state taxing bodies to take the amount they “lost” to appeals refunds, total that up, and then just raise taxes that amount, effectively nullifying the appeals decisions and acting as a yearly new stealth, backdoor tax hike.

The Democrats are just plain crooks.

In New York state and New York City the reps in the legislature and NYC city council get special earmarks directly to them and for them to decide how to use, outside of the regualar department budgets and allocations.

Backdoor tax hike.

Yep- right up the back door.

You get what you voted for - can’t wait until BO’s billion dollar ‘library with no books’ costs kick in.

A reading of history will suggest most revolutions are the result of high taxes (or put differently, the power that be taking more of the serf’s earning leaving the serf to live in poverty).

When governments spends more then they take in rather then cut cost they simply raise taxes. This works for awhile but eventually they (the serfs) revolt.

It’s almost as if Illinois is holding a gun at residents ordering them to leave.

Delicious!

I've been warning my Illinois friends to get the frack out of Illinois-Dodge for many years.

Some have paid attention. Others have not.

This will REALLY get their attention.

There need not be a revolution because people can just leave. Slowly but surely the tax base will erode, people won’t pay these taxes, the unproductive will squat as the properties and roads deteriorate, and the productive will leave and ultimately if not reversed the state will become defunct.

California, a beautiful state, is running $65 billion deficit on a $300 billion budget. These ponzi schemes all eventually collapse.

Oh there’s lots of ways to do it where I live because there are upper limits tax increases they appraise my property out 45% more than last year so I end up shelling out about about 40% more total in taxes than last year.

You see the government’s reasoning is that even though my business has gotten worse and my income has gone down, the market value of my house which I have to live in, or live in on the street, has increased meaning that somehow I have more money to pay them even though my income has decreased.

I can’t appeal the valuation because realistically it is the market value of my house. But how that means I have more money to pay in taxes is incomprehensible. I cannot realize that increase in value unless I sell and then I have to buy property which is also increased proportionately in value. So the increase in value does nothing even if I sell the house. Except that it does get Nelson County another 43% in taxes from me. These people are bloody vampires they will suck the life out of you until you’re dead and then they will take your property and throw your body in the garbage.

You don't have to play fracking dumb about this - you live it.

Let us know how much the pain is when your next Illinois property tax bill arrives.

We'll commiserate with you, like we would with any fellow freeper.

Nice try, Frack. You went from some fantasy about lawns and “backdoor borders” to property taxes. Tell me, Frack; was it the brown acid?

As a farmer/rancher here in central Kansas I had my land property taxes appreciate about 12% for three consecutive years. I called the county appraiser and asked him what the hell was going on because the commodities I could produce on that land were not appreciating in anywhere near a commensurate fashion. He told me that K-State set that. So effectively a bunch of unelected Agronomy professors were setting my land value. There wasn’t a damn thing I could do about it.

“When governments spends more then they take in rather then cut cost they simply raise taxes.”

The Federal government’s gimmick is to print money which is equivalent to a tax increase on the ordinary guy. Too many of us don’t realize that.

States, Cities, etc., can’t print money.

We understand.

Your intellectual frailty didn't allow you to make the connection between yourself and your state of residence.

Well, we're glad you sold the old homestead before the Illinois government pirates swooped in with their property tax letters of marque.
