Poland has two main parties and several smaller, but still politically-meaningful parties.

The two main parties are like the two wings of the U.S. Republican Party. I realize that on this site there are MAGA Americans who dislike moderate Republicans even more than they dislike the leftists in the Democratic Party. And, there are Putinbots who are looking to sow discord in the west. But, having the country’s two major parties be to the right of the center of American politics is a good thing.

In Hungary, they brought home ethnic Hungarians who wanted to live in a traditional European state. Poland didn't exactly follow suit completely. The Poles under Tusk's old laws let in workers from Belarus and Ukraine, British homos teaching their kids, but didn't want to let ethnic Poles who fled communism come back with full citizenship easily. So, their electorate has gotten less traditionally Polish, Catholic and conservative. Kaczynski's government didn't change Tusk's citizenship laws, so they got what they got.

No, the EU didn’t appoint Tusk.

Tusk is charismatic — I dislike him, but there is no denying he is charismatic. Without him, his party (PO) would not have won so many votes.

His party came second with the % of votes, but in alignment with two other parties, they have 55% of the votes in parliament.

This is a parliamentary democracy, so people don’t elect the PM directly, rather, they vote for individual Members of Parliament. In Poland this is also compound by it having proportional representation, so NOT First past the post.

Ireland was once a proud and decent nation. But years of EU bullying and trickery have turned it into just another tawdry little European cesspool. The EU is trying to do the same to Poland and Hungary....I guess we’ll have to wait to see if they succeed.
