Update on Hungarian Funds: Show Me the Money! In the past 4 hours the European Commission has decided to release the 10.2 billion Euro in aid that was still frozen 6 hours ago when we first reported. This all comes on the eve of an EU Summit at which Hungarian President Orbán had promised to block 50 billion Euro in funds promised by the European Council to Ukraine.
This is just part of the 30 billion Hungary may receive contingent on meeting EU human rights requirements. Those requirements seem to be a little ambiguous: "After a thorough assessment...the horizontal enabling condition on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights is fulfilled..."
If I had to guess, I'd say that this "horizontal enabling condition" is keeping the Ukrainian military on life support.

If he tries to double cross them, he will probably never see the other 2/3, Ukraine could get the green light to shut off (or blow) the Friendship Pipeline that brings Russian gas to Hungary through Ukraine, and Hungarian sidelining and expulsion from the EU and NATO will get underway in earnest.

In their version Hungary is the eternal victim and the main activity of the rest of the world is conspiring to harm Hungary. Since this is “Systemic Anti-Hungarianism” it means that Hungarians can do anything they want and are owed reparations.
