Conservatives unhappy with Speaker Johnson over defense bill passage with FISA reauthorization

House conservatives are unhappy with House Speaker Mike Johnson's handling of the defense bill passage, which included temporary Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act reauthorization.

Republicans and some Democrats have been calling for changes to FISA's Section 702, which deals with federal surveillance of U.S. citizens abroad.

House GOP leaders pulled two FISA reform bills from the House floor and the National Defense Authorization Act passed with a temporary FISA extension through April 19. More House Democrats voted in favor of the NDAA than Republicans. The NDAA passed in the Democratic-led Senate 87-13.

"I love our military. That’s why I voted for the NDAA passed this summer under Speaker McCarthy that included a 30% pay raise for junior members of the military. But the NDAA negotiated by Speaker Johnson, Chuck Schumer, Mitch McConnell and Hakeem Jeffries removed that pay raise," said Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.

"Not only that, it didn’t remove Ukraine funding and doubled it to $600 million, funded abortion vacations, and kept trans in our military. Worst of all, they shoved the FISA spy court into our defense bill. The NDAA should NEVER reauthorize the weaponization of our justice system that Joe Biden’s DOJ and the FBI are using to spy on American citizens," she added.

Other conservatives vented their frustrations with the NDAA process.

"More Dems just voted for the BAD NDAA deal than Republicans. I voted AGAINST it because the Senate stripped most of the things that made it a good bill in the summer, and they added the FISA extension without reforms," Rep. Bob Good, R-Va., the new chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, wrote on X.

Talk the talk, throw a bone, produce a couple of sound bites at hearings that lead nowhere, screw your base, go on TV to polish the turd, limp along until cast out.

The Swamp GOP playbook. That’s the representation we get, and soon we will be jailed or worse for complaining about it.

Also gave money for perversion, abortion and tearing down the reconciliation Memorial at Arlington. Johnson met with Ryan and screwed us like a senate internet in a hearing room.

On January 19, 2018, Trump signed the warrantless surveillance of Americans into law . The bill tat Trump signed also included the reauthorization of FISA 702. Trump stated:

“This intelligence is vital to keeping the Nation safe. As shown by the recent attacks in New York City and elsewhere around the globe, we face a constant threat from foreign terrorist networks and other foreign actors who would do us harm. In order to detect and prevent attacks before they happen, we must be able to intercept the communications of foreign targets who are reasonably believed to possess foreign intelligence information.

Section 702 provides the necessary authority, and it has proven to be among the Nation's most effective foreign intelligence tools. It has enabled our Intelligence Community to disrupt numerous plots against our citizens at home and our warfighters abroad, and it has unquestionably saved American lives. The Act I have signed today preserves and extends this critically important national security tool.”

Just keep calm and carry on; when the nation is jammed up against the Red Sea of complete and total destruction, Johnson will raise up his rod and rebuke it all.

I like Mike Johnson, but he might be a little green for the job and just plain overwhelmed.

He did raise his rod and part us from our freedom. Soon he will part us from our money.

I call him “hosedus”.

The Swamp GOP playbook.

Once again GOP in congress prove that they are more interested in being reelected than they are in doing what is right

And if you call them on it at a townhall they will say if I don’ get re-elected I can’t continue the to fight for you in Washington

If they buck the leadership they don’t get party campaign funds.

If they buck the leadership they don’t advance to leadership

They all end up careerist rather than statesmen

This showed beyond a shadow of doubt that anyone looking for the republican congress to save the day is delusional.

It is about time for FISA to go both ways.

FISA is fine. It’s the abuse of FISA that is the problem. The abusers must be caught, tried, convicted and punished.

Watch Congressman Womack (GOP) from Arkansas arguing for increased FBI funding - at about the 2:18 mark

Arkansas Congressman Womack for FBI funding

This is why the fbi does whatever they want. Republicans like these are enabling them.

If you are in Womack’s district, ask him what he has done to to stop the abuse and targeting of conservatives.... other than bullsh@#ting. This guy needs some good competition in the primary.

The Truth is Republicans spend most of their energy, time, money ensuring all the Deep State agencies and powers grow - despite their promises (lies) to Constituents.
