LOS ANGELES (AP) — A federal judge on Wednesday blocked a California law that would have banned carrying firearms in most public places, ruling that it violates the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and deprives people of their ability to defend themselves and their loved ones.
The law signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in September was set to take effect Jan. 1. It would have prohibited people from carrying concealed guns in 26 places including public parks and playgrounds, churches, banks and zoos. The ban would apply whether the person has a permit to carry a concealed weapon or not. One exception would be for privately owned businesses that put up signs saying people are allowed to bring guns on their premises.
U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney granted a preliminary injunction blocking the law, which he wrote was “sweeping, repugnant to the Second Amendment, and openly defiant of the Supreme Court.”
The court case against the law will proceed while the law is blocked. The judge wrote that gun rights groups are likely to succeed in proving it unconstitutional, meaning it would be permanently overturned.

A person does not need to be armed for self protection. Simply dial the emergency number and a cop will be there in a matter of several minutes. In the meantime, just dodge the perp’s bullets or barricade yourself in your home armed with a kitchen knife or baseball bat.
The lunatics in Maryland passed a similar law this year. It suffered the same fate when a judge who understand the Constitution overturned it.

The amazing thing about that photo is that the subjects appear to be employing proper trigger finger discipline.
Judge Carney also ruled that the idiotic “Unsafe” Handgun Act was unconstitutional in March 2023. Now at the 9th Circuit I believe.
He was also a pretty good wide receiver at UCLA in the 1980s.
I remember 1982 when California proposed a handgun registration scheme(Prop 15) and ban law. It was guaranteed to pass! Handgun Control Inc was already drinking toasts to it’s passage.
When the voter spoke the law was defeated heavily!
Years later I heard that such a law later had been passed by the voters. I don’t remember that one!
Possible SUBTERFUGE as in 1989 when California proposed an unpopular AW ban then shelved the bill, released Pat Purdy from a mental institution, allowed him to buy guns, passing the waiting period, then he went and shot up the Stockton School yard killing several students and himself.
The bill was pulled out and passed before any opposition could be mounted against it.
