Wisconsin Supreme Court tosses GOP-drawn legislative maps in major redistricting case
CBS News ^ | December 22, 2023

The liberal-controlled Wisconsin Supreme Court overturned Republican-drawn legislative maps on Friday and ordered that new district boundary lines be drawn, siding with Democrats in a redistricting case that they hope will weaken GOP majorities.

The ruling comes less than a year before the 2024 election in a battleground state where four of the six past presidential elections have been decided by fewer than 23,000 votes, and Republicans have built large majorities in the Legislature under maps they drew over a decade ago.

The court ruled 4-3 in favor of Democrats who argued that the legislative maps are unconstitutional because districts drawn aren't contiguous. They also argued that the Supreme Court violated the separation of powers doctrine.

The lawsuit was filed a day after the court's majority flipped to 4-3 liberal control in August. That's when Justice Janet Protasiewicz joined the court after her April election victory.

Protasiewicz called the GOP-drawn maps "unfair" and "rigged" during her campaign, leading Republicans to threaten to impeach her before she had even heard a case. She sided with the other liberal justices in striking down the current maps.

Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, who had threatened impeachment the loudest, backed off on Wednesday and said even if she ruled in favor of throwing out the maps, impeachment was "super unlikely."

The ruling comes one month after the court heard oral arguments in the case in November. The state elections commission has said maps must be in place by March 15 if the new districts are to be in play for the 2024 election.

The scuzballs on the “Supreme Courts” need to make sure the Dung Beetle Party continues to destroy America and replace it with their sh*t sandwich democrazy.

Divide the voters up equally by last name.

Say a state has three districts.

A-Hd: District 1
He-Rh: District 2
Ri-Z: District 3

I, Brian Griffin, would be in District 1.

Appeal this to the USSC. Take your time with it.

Democrats side with Democrats.

I'll bet you and your pals at the DUmp are happier than clams, Coronal.

“The plaintiffs, who are Democratic voters, claim that the legislative district boundaries violate Article IV, Section 4 of the state constitution, which says Assembly members must be elected from districts consisting of ‘contiguous territory.’

“But the same section of Article IV also requires that Assembly districts ‘be bounded by county, precinct, town or ward lines.’

“Senate districts, which are each made up of three Assembly districts, are governed by Section 5. It says they must consist of ‘convenient contiguous territory.’”

Looking at some maps, the Wisconsin Supreme Court has a valid point.

The last name method I favor doesn’t seem to be compatible with the Wisconsin constitution.

WI libs resent how the conservative court backed Scott Walker when he busted the teachers union, now it’s payback time.

The Dung Beetles complain about Americans raising hell about the RATS stealing elections. They say there is “no proof” the RATS are stealing them. This right here is proof the far left “judges” are doing it out in the open right under our noses. Who told the black-robed, fascist screwballs that it was important that black people have the same number of votes in every district as the white people have? American elections are a sham.

It was obvious months ago that this would be the outcome, sabre-rattling by liberal cowards like RINO Vos notwithstanding.

If the legislature gets to draw the new lines, the partisan Democrat court will simply veto any new map that isn’t a complete Democrat gerrymander.

When the Rats inevitably are the ones to be handed the task, they will screw Republicans to the wall and pick up 2 seats in Wisconsin. They might even try for +3 but that’s less likely.

Well, the newest Wisconsin justice indicated she would do so if elected so no surprise there. I’ve noticed that every liberal state is allowed to gerrymander as they wish but conservative leaning states have every court telling them they must redraw their maps to create more “minority” districts.

For the sake of argument, what would happen if the legislature decided to ignore the Supreme Court?

What kind of enforcement mechanism would the Wi SC have to enforce their decision?

Yup- A few judges now control the entire country. There is definitely not equal power among the 3 branches. That is why the left worked so hard to corrupt the courts.

Of course it was tossed. Republicans are no longer allowed to draw their state’s congressional districts.

Go to the link in post#7.

There are many “islands” in many of the districts. In one case, an island consists of a single house!
