Christmas Day meant the same as any other day for thousands of migrants walking through southern Mexico: more trudging under a hot sun.
There were no presents, and Christmas Eve dinner was a sandwich, a bottle of water and a banana handed out by the Catholic church to some of the migrants in the town of Álvaro Obregón, in the southern state of Chiapas, which borders Guatemala.
Migrants spent Christmas night sleeping on a scrap of cardboard or plastic stretched out under an awning or tent, or the bare ground.
Karla Ramírez, a migrant from Honduras who was traveling with other adults and four children, got to Álvaro Obregón too late Sunday to get any of the food being given out by the church. So they had to buy whatever little they could afford.
“It was sad: we have never, ever been in the street before,” Ramírez said. “Our Christmas dinner was some mortadella, butter and tomato, with a tortilla.”
Mariela Amaya’s seven-year-old son didn’t understand why they had to spend Christmas this way. Amaya, also from Honduras, tugged the hand of her tired, recalcitrant son as they walked.
“They don’t understand why we have to do this to get a better life,” Amaya said. Nor did the governments of Mexico and the United States, she said.
“Why can’t they help us? We need their help,” she said.
What little help there was came from local families, one of whom gave out tamales — traditional seasonal fare — and water to the passing migrants.
The migrants included single adults but also entire families, all eager to reach the U.S. border.

Too many Americans have the naive idea that Our Republic is indestructible and don't view a mortal threat as a call to action.
Perhaps off topic, but are fireworks typical of Christmas in Mexico? I’m in Dunwoody, GA right now and heard lots of fireworks last night and some this evening.

2. Eliminate all social benefits to illegals.
3. Strict eVerify enforcement. Harsh penalties.
4. Enforce VISA overstay laws.
5. Deport the remaining stragglers like Eisenhower.
If we had a real president, we’d be demanding that Mexico stop the caravan and if they didn’t we would. Long before the border.

I heard this illegal alien caravan has got a leader. Slo Joe Pedo says he don’t know how to stop invaders unless they are invading the Ukraine. Hey Jo! Azho. Get a lawyer and asked the leader azho to show his license to transport caravaners into the United States. If he don’t have one, LOCK HIS ASS UP.
Of course this would all work. In fact, probably only picking two off your menu would do the job.
Problem is, as I’m sure you know, too many “Americans” don’t have the “intestinal fortitude” to see an illegal six year old (who’ll likely to spend the next 80 years of her life on public assistance) crying on a jetway?
This was one of my favorite jokes this year but I thought it was just Texas. This year during THANKSGIVING, people started setting off fireworks. I joked that they’ll be setting off fireworks on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. WELL, THEY DID! Hope they have some left over for New Year’s.
