Minimum-wage workers in 22 states are going to see more money in their paychecks in the new year.

Those increases will affect an estimated 9.9 million workers, according to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), which estimates that those bumped wages will add up to an additional $6.95 billion in pay.

Honest question. Article recently said roughly 50% of illegals are still on welfare and related benefits after one year in the U.S.

Can’t the other 50% be working as nearly slave wage laborers by capitalist employers? Why would anyone have to pay legal minimum wages if millions of illegals are around?

Hello robots!!! They need ZERO pay.

As an example... I have a small machine shop. I can lease / rent a robot for $15 an hour that will work 24 hours a day with zero breaks, zero benefits, zero sick days, and full online support to do menial jobs like grinding welds or deburring parts.

And a lot of workers will be losing their jobs and employers will be losing their business.

The "progressives" will be wailing and gnashing their teeth, wondering what happened.

Some, but not all. Some will see their jobs vanish completely.

And prices will be going up on Jan 1, thanks to the mandated hourly rate of pay.

The best minimum rate is 0. Let the market set the rate.

But what this really is about is total government ownership of the means of production, which would let the government set all pay rates and prices and usher in their Holy Grail, communism.

I’ve already cut back on eating out at restaurants and fast food joints. Soon, I won’t be going to any of them anymore. Just too damn expensive.

You can’t pay employees more than they can produce for very long.

This is an easy fix for the communist government in California. They will simply pass a law that every pizza restaurant must offer delivery.

Chipotle and Panera are way overpriced. Chipotle used to offer reasonable priced and I think it tasted better before. Now it's bland and the portion is way less than it was before.

...or, the unemployment office.

Minimum-wage workers in 22 states are going to see more money in their paychecks in the new year.

Corrected story line: Inflation is highly likely to increase after the new year as well as layoffs of numerous unskilled workers.

In much of the ‘developed’ world, eating out is a rare treat - something people do on special occassions or on travel. This is due to the very high prices of having to pay a ‘living wage’ to the waiters and dishwashers who have been there 20+ years and trying to support families.

The US is one of the very rate countries where eating out was something that the masses could do on a regular basis due to our strange ability to pay people based on the skill level of their job. The Left is now putting an end to that.

Bottom line: Learn to cook.
